Just a few of the good people in public life who, subjected to intolerable psychological pressure or prejudice, felt they had no way forward except to take their own lives.
How many more?
Why the new norm in summer temperatures will require us to rethink the school year and timing of exams. And, why the best time to start doing that is now.

Well said Lucy Powell. Our fixation with pushing young people to resit maths and English GCSEs, if they’ve failed to get a grade 4 at first attempt, causes a huge sense of failure for thousands. I never passed GCSE English, but have gone on write more than 50 published books.
The world has lost a genius, scapegoated by lesser men and women as many others have been in the past. Listen to my reflection on the lessons we must learn in the wake of Dr Jason Arday’s death, for this morning’s Sunday programme at 34mins 20s onwards. https://t.co/g6asGXGPoC
For Jason. May you find peace in the arms of the God of love and acceptance - in your escape from the whirlpool of media scrutiny and public judgement. Forgive us all for we know not what we do.
Excited the new gym equipment at Oasis St Martin’s Village is just being installed. Like our new Village, opening next month on the Wirral, it’s dedicated to the wellbeing, health & education of children & young people - creating hope, opportunity & future career paths for them.
As we debate early release, the biggest problem we face is still being ignored. We have the highest prison population in Western Europe & huge rates of reoffending. So until we deal with the underlying issues, releasing people from prison, whether early or not will solve nothing.
I am tempted to believe that Fifa has overlooked the fact that there is very strong evidence that it is Gianni Infantino who has systematically "undermined" both himself and their entire organisation.
How do we tackle over crowding in our prisons and what are the costs of early release? They are colossal and far less effective than investing in early work with children & youth people to create happier, healthier & more constructive childhoods!
The problem of our overcrowded prisons will never be resolved until we ask different questions. The majority of adults in our prisons were first criminalised as teenagers. So what about tackling the school to prison pipeline & thinking about how we break the cycle of reoffending?
Yesterday we launched ‘The Simple Way’ at Oasis St. Martin’s Village in South London - partnering with and inspired by Shane Claiborne’s work in Philadelphia.
“It can't be done, usually means we have stopped trying.”

I love this ethic - when we work together it is extraordinary just how much can be achieved.
Children should be given clearer pathways into work from the age of 14. Andy Burnham unveils reforms that will allow them to study subjects like manufacturing & AI alongside core academic learning.
At last, real hope that the hard hat might be valued as much as the academic cap!
What is it that makes some forms of religious belief angry with & even violent towards LGBTQ+ communities?
I’m standing with the organisers and supporters of the Berlin Pride event. And with the vast majority of open-minded people mourning the loss of yet another innocent life.
I loved the company of, worked alongside & also debated with Ann Widdecombe the years. We were passionate about some of the same issues & at odds over others.
I was therefore deeply saddened to hear of her death & now horrified to learn of the nature of it.
Rest in peace Ann.
