I had a great time chatting to the lovely people at @tortoisepod about making science documentaries, ET and how I came to be driving across Addis Ababa with @ProfBrianCox and a human brain in a bucket (for clarity, only the brain was in the bucket)…

From Fossil to Frame: #LolaPost Reimagines #WalkingWithDinosaurs - #BBCStudios Science Unit’s six-part series was created in collaboration with the #VFX studio, who crafted 791 #visualeffects shots including complex environments and 21 unique dinosaur species. https://t.co/NgNfoeUgKj #UnrealEngine #VFXWorld
Here's a fun article I wrote for the BBC about how we shot the fight scenes in "Band of Brothers", Ep 3 of @BBCOne and @PBS series #Walkingwithdinosaurs in which I pretend to be a dinosaur. Series on @BBCiPlayer now and launching 06/16 on PBS

God, this episode was just incredible! Despite what negative feelings people may have towards the new #WWD2025 I ask that you give this episode a chance. Equally heartfelt and compelling, with relevant scientific portions that actually enhance the speculative story!
There's very good model and texture work in the new Walking with Dinosaurs, and it shines the strongest when the dinosaurs are in open environments and rendered with longer lenses. I thought that these two shots in the third epsiode looked particularly impressive and convincing.
Positives of #WWD2025 River Dragon:
- Best Spinosaurus depiction in any documentary
- Best Carcharodontosaurus depiction in any documentary
- Great storytelling
- Great biodiversity
- Better pacing & editing
- The episode was generally better written & executed than the first one
My opinion on #WWD2025 episode "River Dragon":
THIS EPISODE IS A MASTERPIECE! Nearly everything was great, I loved both the Spinosaurus & Carcharodontosaurus, many scenes were genuinely fresh & interesting, scientific parts were informative & biodiversity was much greater!
9/10
Ep2 was so much better, it's not even funny. The format actually works now; both the prehistoric and modern sequences have room to breathe, and the latter is actually informative. There's some surprises, including what became the MVP species of the episode
