Architect d.b.a. trusted advisor for building product mfr. delivering reliable technical service to built environment stakeholders ☛ opinions are my own.
Indeed; one presenter cited two individuals who weren't "college material" that earned their CDT and went on to land jobs paying 95k and 126k. Sorry if my Tweets were confusing, but this is new ground & audience is mostly educators that want to incorporate CDT in CC AEC programs.
@Specmonkey@stevelawrey@CSIConstruction@TUArchitecture I think Steve was just live Tweeting from a conference he was attending. I would hope he wasn't expressing his own opinions, given his accomplishment of CDT CCS CCCA and CCPR. That's a career, not merely a sash full of "merit badges"
One could view listing earned credentials after one's name the same as scouts displaying merit badges. They both say, "look what I know." But, except for PhD, we don't list our degrees much less all the courses we took to earn them.
@stevelawrey@CSIConstruction@TUArchitecture “Merit Badge” indeed. Knot-tying, while admittedly a valuable skill to have, is much less complex than comprehensive understanding on contract documents. What kind of nonsense is this?
That's the point; indeed, they are valuable, but they are not Masters degrees. Big difference - compartitively low investment of time & money, but big reward. In context of education, certifications are cutting into college/university bottom lines.
Soon CSI will be debuting electronic "badges" for email signatures which when clicked will tell when certification was earned, continuing education earned... greater value & transparency.

Yes; Tweeting from Built Environment Prep Conference regarding NSF grant to implement CDT in Comm Colleges. In the relm of education CSI certs are indeed micro but expedient, economical & highly valuable. Conf is providing a glimpse at future of certification.

Things to consider for @CSIConstruction#CDT renewal: most recognized #CSI certification, no longer prerequisite to advanced certifications, demonstrates value to industry, set example for AEC students #beprep@TempleUniv
@AOSarchitects Such a unique, successful, local project. Would you consider presenting on this to @CSIPhila with a focus on the construction documents? We are near the end of our FY, but it would be a great topic for next fall.
Congratulations R. A. Kennedy & Sons for achieving @NACCProgram certification. https://t.co/j0AReJHSYw Six Philadelphia area glazing contractors are now NACC certified. Thank you for making the effort to simplify qualifications specifications.
