The international football community continues to discuss the controversial and widely described robbery in the FIFA World Cup match between Haiti and Scotland, which has drawn widespread criticism from fans, players, media outlets, and former professionals.
Even though Haiti was the better team for most of the game, they couldn’t maintain their momentum amid the physical play and the referee's unfair calls. Scotland kept making tough challenges, and several decisions went against Haiti, which disrupted their rhythm and frustrated both the players and fans.
A particularly disputed moment occurred in the 45th minute when Haitian forward Ruben Providence was fouled by Scotland’s Aaron Hickey. Video footage showed Providence being pulled, grabbed, and held; however, referee Mustapha Ghorbal of Algeria awarded the foul against the Haitian player.
Another major flashpoint came when a shot from Haiti’s Bellegarde struck the arm of Scotland defender Grant Hanley inside the penalty area. Many analysts viewed the incident as a clear handball, yet no penalty was awarded. The decision was not reviewed by VAR, with officials including assistant referees Abdullah Dhafer of Saudi Arabia and Mohammed Obaid Khadim of the United Arab Emirates, along with VAR Fedayi San of Switzerland, opting not to intervene.
In stoppage time (94th minute), Haiti’s Josue Casimir was on the receiving end of a high boot to the knee from Scotland’s Kenny McLean. The challenge was widely regarded as dangerous play that endangered player safety and warranted a red card, yet no dismissal was issued.
Scotland received three yellow cards during the match. Critics argue that stricter officiating could have resulted in additional bookings and at least one red card.
These events have left many questioning the fairness of the officiating and its impact on Haiti’s performance. For a Haitian side that invested significant effort to reach the tournament, the outcome has been deeply disappointing. The match has fueled broader debates about referee accountability and consistency at the highest levels of international football.
Exigimos que se investigue la actuación del árbitro argelino Mustapha Ghorbal, quien no señaló dos posibles penales a favor de Haití durante el partido.

You reduce crime by eliminating poverty. The actual reason so called nice neighborhoods have lower crime rates is because people’s basic needs are being met. It is not because of police, alarm systems, or neighborhood associations. Poverty creates crime.
