@skippy6674@FriedgeHNIC Remember, this is how the Sharks got Goodrow. He wouldn’t waive his NTC to come to SJ. The Sharks guaranteed themselves this player at his current cap hit. A cap hit that is certainly higher than his preferred destination would have had to pay him.
@skippy6674@FriedgeHNIC Sure, but again Schmidt could then choose to go elsewhere. San Jose could offer $10 mil as a FA (I know this is $4 mil more than his current cap hit, I’m throwing this large number out there to illustrate my point) and he may turn it down because he wouldn’t choose to play in SJ.
@viking_1963@FriedgeHNIC The posts I’ve seen suggest the buyouts of these players are done deals. Capfriendly, for example, has already changed these players contracts to having been bought out. That’s why I ask if the rules are different here or if the Sharks can put in a claim if they so desire
@viking_1963@FriedgeHNIC In the Sharks’ case, they would be guaranteed the player if they put in a claim. Should they hedge and wait for free agency, they’re now competing against 30 other teams for the player. The Sharks have lots of cap space, so overpaying someone like Schmidt isn’t a concern
