@RockyWasYer @Steve____D @jeremycorbyn Yes and in Corbyns (publicly owned) model the same system applies. It’s just shareholders are all of us rather than some big investment banks or hedge funds.

We get dividends back in cheaper energy when it’s doing well. When it’s bad we can absorb the loses and keep prices down

@RockyWasYer @Steve____D @jeremycorbyn They make huge profit due to external circumstances not of their own making. Have restrictions to give that profit to shareholders. While the consumer (who has no real market choice) pays handsomely or doesn’t heat their home

@RockyWasYer @Steve____D @jeremycorbyn The issue with privatisation in this instance though, is that Shell are beholden to shareholders with how they direct that profit, as you say they have restrictions.

While I don’t agree with it in every industry, publicly owned energy companies would serve the public here.

I’m unsure of your point. You’re saying it’s inevitable that an energy company will produce massive profits?

Costs escalating should surely eat into profit for shareholders, unless they pass it onto the customer, which feels like why everyone’s rightly angry.
