📣As we commemorate #IMAD2024 today, we must step up action to address the human rights implications of landmines
⏭️Action at the Human Rights Council is necessary to hold nations to account under their international #HumanRights law obligations ▶️#IHRL applies always, irrespective of whether States are parties to the #OttawaConvention
⚖️On top of those human rights obligations, States also have obligations under international environmental law, given the impacts of landmines on the land and surrounding environments, incl. soil erosion and water pollution
📜Compiling States' mine-related human rights and environmental post-conflict obligations in one place is crucial so that the rights of victims are upheld, post-conflict reconciliation is strengthened, and land and natural resources are protected

Today’s financial architecture is outdated, dysfunctional & unfair.
It favours the rich countries that designed it nearly 80 years ago.
We must keep working for deep reforms to make financial institutions and frameworks truly universal and inclusive.
@almolokomme@BWGovernment@HR75 The event was well attended and showcased the tremendous progress in Africa to promote the participation of women in public and political life. I believe that Africa is leading the way in this field.
A privilege & honor to represent @BWGovernment at the high level segment of the opening ceremony of the @HR75 commemoration in Geneva. 🇧🇼 Delighted to have co-hosted a panel at a side event on women’s participation in political & public life in Africa with 🇩🇯 🇳🇦 🇷🇼 & 🇹🇬.
The crisis in #Gaza is an acid test for the @UN, its Member States and for humanity.
This organization was established to foster peace in our world.
We continue to call for an end to this conflict.
People of #AfricanDescent continue to face pervasive discrimination around the world.
We must continue to speak out against all ideas of racial superiority & work to free all societies from the blight of racism.
I honour the historic and ongoing struggle of people of #AfricanDescent for racial justice.
It is high time to confront the past and dismantle systemic racism in all its forms. #FightRacism
78 years ago, a nuclear weapon incinerated Hiroshima.
As anyone who has visited knows, the memories never fade.
I stand with the people of Hiroshima and the hibakusha working tirelessly to ensure that nuclear weapons are never used again.

This year, as always, I have spent time in motivating and inspiring young people. I believe that they are the future to whom we pass on the baton. Below pictures with students from North Eastern University and the International Youth and Student Movement for the UN (ISMUN).
1 in 22 people globally need humanitarian aid.
So far this year, we've received only 20% of the funds needed to assist them.
I urge the international community not to abandon them.
