because she's not supposed to be that crazy. she loved carrie more than any previous iterations of carrie. she was very crazy and strict to the 5 yo carrie but after realising how powerful she was, she knew she had to handle carrie with a little more love and care. she knew she was living with a ticking time bomb. she is also a controlling mother but by being intrusive and cunning.
