It is clear that Trump has initiated the process of de facto pulling the USA out of NATO. Only certain "favoured" contries can expect US support in a crisis. (Uk, Poland).
US has not spent $350B on Ukraine. It has spent $132B, $33B of that is money. The rest is $21B in loans, repaid from frozen Russian assets, $4B in humanitarian aid, and the vast majority, $74B is military equipment.
Half that equipment is new, made in the US. The other half is old stockpile equipment, which soon would have had to be demilitarized at great cost. The replacement equipment is made in the US, so the money stays in the US.
Meanwhile, the EU and European countries have spent a combined $271B, more than twice as much as the US.
I'm absolutely sure that customers and governments around the world will be absolutely thrilled to sign multimillion-dollar contracts with Starlink and rely on its services, knowing that at any moment Elon Musk will jump up to violate every contractual obligation and shut down their terminals whenever his boss gets another insane whim up his head.
Starlink doesn't work in Russia, so crippling Ukrainian Starlinks does not protect Russian refineries, but it does make Ukrainian military operations in Ukraine more difficult, and demonstrates (once again) why Europe should never buy American military hardware.
@ewaldeng Yes you use that word "proxy" a lot. I sincerely doubt Ukraine would be able to withstand four and a half years of fullscale russian warfare without the full comittment of the majority of the ukrainan people.
