So I signed a severance agreement where my previous employer agreed to pay 3 months of my health insurance premiums. The hard deadline for the COBRA payment is 7/16/2026. Lawyers of X what should I do here?! #severance#legal
@TheJobfather__ The Games Industry (Console + Mobile) is imploding right now. It's one of the reasons I want to get as a far away from it as I can. It's not viable long-term when you consider the cost of development and subscription models in place.
What are the best examples of harmful bias in AI systems deployed today? I know of one - commercial skin cancer detection apps that don't work as well on non-white skin.
I gave 3 meetup talks in 2018 on "machine learning pitfalls" and about 1/3 of the talk was about gender and racial bias. At the time major companies like Microsoft and Google were obviously clueless about the issues and were deploying systems with a huge amount of bias. I gave a bunch of examples. I believe many of these have been fixed in the last five years however given the outcry that resulted. The examples I gave:
-- Women less likely to be shown ads for high paying jobs.
-- Google Photos app labeling black people as gorillas.
-- Much higher error rates in commercial facial analysis programs for dark-skinned women (work of Buolamwini and Gebru)
-- Google autocomplete problems (like completing "jews should" with "be wiped out" and "get over the holocaust" 😬)
-- Google image search problems (ie search for "scientist" is all white men)
-- Google ads for background checks for black names (work of Latanya Sweeney)
-- Google translate issues. (would literally translate "he is a nurse" to "she is a nurse")
-- Gender bias in word2vec
-- COMPAS algorithm (including some of the debate about how to define bias in this one (ie either calibration or false positive rate))
Which leads me to this:
We have AI but we have lost Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion. At this point with the rise of AI in hiring and daily life, it is only going to perpetuate discriminatory practices because its trained on bias and discriminatory data.
@claudeai is very much aware its perpetuating systemic and racial bias and that is not a good thing. We have AI, but we have no guardrails in place to prevent discrimination and bias from occurring when companies use it to make things more efficient and faster.
Stanford University researchers analyzed 4 million job applications and found that 26% of Black applicants and 15% of Asian applicants applied to jobs where AI hiring systems worked against their racial group.
The researchers estimate that if those candidates had been recommended at the same rate as the most-favored group, roughly 40,000 additional applications would have advanced to the next stage of hiring.
@WAGSocialCare@Walgreens Why did you cancel my Rx? My provider sent a Rx directly to your pharmacy for a drug for me to use as needed. Since I didn't want the fill immediately your team went ahead and canceled the script completely and now I can't even fill it! WHY?
I built a new free resources hub website with 11 free resources.
Took a ton of work but it looks good and should be super valuable and helpful for people.
@culvers My sister and aunt spent over $50 at your 95th & Kedzie location on 6/18/26, received only half their order, and weren't given a receipt. They returned with proof of the full charge on their card, and the manager still refused to help. This is not okay! We want a refund!
@coursera I have a coursera plus subscription (the annual one) and my account has been charged already. Why am I receiving a prompt a message saying "Paid enrollment required to unlock." I paid you already and I dont have a free trial (you already took my money!)
@SHEIN_Official Can you explain why the shipping estimates before ordering are off by so much? Before I placed an order the estimate was sooner. HOWEVER as soon as I placed order not even 1 hour later its almost a week later. Can we get more accurate estimates on the order page?
