Vallisneria that melts in days usually has a buried crown or a dose of liquid carbon, which it cannot tolerate. Plant the roots at an angle with the white base level with the substrate, skip the liquid carbon, and it will fill your background. https://t.co/O87Fm4FRIc #Aquascape
Chili rasboras only show their strongest red in a real group. Keep at least ten, better fifteen, in a densely planted tank with gentle flow, and cover every filter intake with a sponge.

@FayeKnoozIV no way, a banded sculpin! such a cool catch. they love cool well oxygenated water and lots of rocks to tuck under, so a 20 long full of creek stones sounds perfect for him
Kuhli loaches hide by day and come alive after dark. Keep a group of six or more on soft sand with plenty of cover, and they will roam in the open far more often. Cover the filter intake too, since they slip into tiny gaps.

Cardinal tetras thrive in soft, warm water under dim light. Buy a settled school that is already eating, and keep them over dark substrate so the blue and red can glow.

@sourerdoe haha bettas are the kings of dramatic naps. mine used to wedge herself in the plants like she was gone every night. a little leaf hammock near the top gives her a comfy spot to crash
Jewel orchids are grown for their leaves. Ludisia is happy on a shaded shelf, while velvet Macodes wants glass and 70% humidity. For both, keep the creeping stem on top of the mix, water the soil, and never mist the leaves.

@aqua_reefworld right? mixed tanks are the fun ones and they just refuse to live on one type of fert. tabs for the root stuff liquid for everything else and youre set
Your plants decide the fertiliser, not your preference. Root feeders like swords and crypts need tabs in the substrate. Column feeders and epiphytes take liquid from the water. Most tanks end up needing both.

A healthy betta needs more than a cup. Start at 5 gallons, heat to 78 to 80F, keep flow gentle, and leave an air gap at the lid so it can breathe. Two or three pellets twice a day is enough for most adult males.

@InkandSoil kitchen sink tanks are the best, you get to check on everyone every time you do dishes. those little neos are so fun to watch graze, toss in a bit of java moss and theyll be in heaven 🦐
Wattage on the box does not tell you what reaches the substrate. Ask for PAR at your tank depth, then match that number to the plants you keep.

Most tanks diagnosed with a nutrient deficiency actually have a carbon or light ceiling first. Fix light and carbon before you dose. Potassium pinholes in older leaves and pale new growth with green veins are the two gaps worth checking early.

@aquariumglaser love a good orthochromis post. indermauri has those clean congo river looks and they stay way calmer than most african cichlids people default to
Bacopa and Ludwigia are forgiving stem plants for midground color. Separate the bunch into single stems, strip the lower leaves, and plant each one alone. After a trim, replant the tops so the stand fills from the substrate up.

Most paludariums fail in the first year because the land section slowly saturates. Start with coarse LECA or lava rock, add a mesh barrier, then an open ABG style mix so water cannot climb and roots stay airy.

@danice_danis haha same. less filter wrestling means more time staring at the shrimp which is the whole point. aquaneat really is just rinse and drop and you are done
