While there is a right to seek refuge when life is threatened, there is also the right not to have to migrate: the right to remain in one’s own home without hunger, war, persecution, violence, the land becoming uninhabitable, corruption stealing the bread from the poor, or weapons destroying the future of children. #ApostolicJourney
Every boat that arrives brings a question along with the migrants: what kind of world have we built, if so many brothers and sisters must risk death to seek life? Human dignity demands legal and safe pathways, rescue and assistance, real cooperation against traffickers, effective protection for victims, serious processes of reception and integration, and policies that allow every person to live with dignity in their own land. We cannot grow accustomed to counting the dead. Human dignity has no passport and does not lose its value when crossing a border. #ApostolicJourney
Pope Leo XIV’s response after hearing a heartbreaking testimony of a human trafficking victim from Nigeria here in the Canary Islands:
“I hope that this message reaches you and the many other women who are victims of trafficking and exploitation. If others have put a price on your body, know that God has never ceased to recognize your inestimable worth.
If others want to trap you in a painful past, God continues to make a promise for your future. If others treat you like an object, the Church wants to tell you today that you are a daughter and you are a sister; you are a blessing.
Your life does not belong to those who harmed you; your body does not belong to those who took advantage of you; your days do not belong to those who wanted to chain you to fear. Your life belongs to God, who has given you a dignity that cannot be taken from you. We want to walk with you until that truth feels stronger than the pain.”

Sick kid is in good spirits but still sick. He's turning 6 tomorrow and we're probably going to have to raincheck his party (it was going to be Saturday) until next month. :(
My SIL seems to have it too so please pray it leaves the rest of us unscathed!
@MmePapyraceus Yeah that's definitely the most polite thing. To me it's the difference between "hey lets go to the movies" which isn't really hosting vs "i am sponsoring a playdate" or "can i take you out for dinner." This is a weird hybrid that is neither.
@MmePapyraceus Idk paying your own way is fine, but it's very weird to have this number of apron strings for kids old enough to see a PG 13 movie.
Giving the hostess your phone number??? Idk it all smells of high control and something more appropriate for fourth graders.
@EamonnClark Imho I think these guys in the article are either a) too effeminate or b) think they can pull a woman who either doesn't exist or doesn't want what they can offer.
They need to spend some time working on themselves.
@EamonnClark The article does not clearly communicate this super well, to be fair, but that's what it's trying to say. Instead of viewing people as people and not rushing to the altar, they're treating dating like buying a car.
Why Young Catholic Men and Women Are Struggling to Connect
Many young Catholics describe dating experiences that feel shaped by expectations, fears and assumptions that leave both sides feeling misunderstood.⬇️

And by weird, I mean unvirtuously weak. You can be into minifigs and model trains and underwater basket weaving for all we care. Are you secure in yourself? Can you hold down a job? Are you interested in learning about who she is as an individual? Are you respectful?
