Here’s what else will happen
Spurs will “shock” OKC in 6 (they simply match up well with them)
1999 finals rematch between Spurs and Knicks
Phantom Wemby injury in the finals
Weird late game calls favoring NY
Knicks win the title to cap off the shittiest nba season ever
@YankeeLineups@nenegwuapo@adryanashton Um yeah and I already addressed that
the Knicks have been in NYC for 60 years before the Nets were in town
Nobody said the Knicks aren’t the main team in town, my argument is that being #1 in the largest market in the country means you’ll always have plenty of away fans
@nenegwuapo@adryanashton Philly is a semi-suburb of ny, train station is 1.5 hours away. In most other cities that gets grouped in as metro area. It was still cheaper for a Knicks fan to attend a game in Philly than at MSG. Same goes for Boston, but the takeovers aren’t as dominant as in Philly
@nenegwuapo@adryanashton The only legit counter argument you could mention is the Nets, but they’re a spin up franchise that was in NJ until 2012 vs the Knicks having been in the city since the league was founded in 1946
@nenegwuapo@adryanashton Still doesn’t invalidate my point. Basketball stadiums are the smallest out of the major sports. NY is the largest market, has the most transplants, most # of rich/wealthy fans, etc.
San Antonio for instance is the size of a nyc neighborhood.
@adryanashton It’s not that they’re more loyal it’s that they’re the biggest market, NY by itself has like 300K+ millionaires and they also move out of state a lot, for example just in Florida there’s 1.6M New Yorkers (almost 10% of the population)
@nenegwuapo@adryanashton That’s what every fanbase says. No, you are a basketball team that plays in a 20K seat arena in a metro area of 20M+. The team could win 0 games and it’ll sell out because there will always be demand
One could argue that for at least in the 23 playoff run Caleb Martin played that role (no, I’m not comparing Caleb to OG or Mikal talent wise). My point is this lengthy, 3&D, versatile wing archetype was missing when we were getting bullied by Aaron Gordon or Robert Williams.
@chris031406@TomStevensSZN@ChefTrillie Jimmy was at the same level. And Bam is comparable to KAT despite different skill sets.
The thing we didn’t have was the versatile two way wings in OG, Mikal and Hart. We had an opportunity to flip Herro for OG, and that was the front office’s complete fuck up to hold onto him.
