UPDATE | Seven kiIIed in Chinhoyi road accident

Seven people died and 10 others were injured in a fatal road traffic accident that occurred near Chinhoyi on Thursday, 16 July 2026.

According to the ZRP, the accident happened at the 109-kilometre peg along the Harare–Chirundu Road near Chinhoyi Heroes Acre. The crash involved a Nissan AD Van and a Nissan NV350 commuter omnibus.

Police said investigations into the circumstances surrounding the accident are still underway.

The Commissioner-General of Police expressed his condolences to the families of the deceased and wished the injured passengers a speedy recovery.

In a statement, the ZRP also reminded motorists that police officers have the legal authority to impound vehicles involved in traffic violations and related criminal offences. Drivers were urged to cooperate with law enforcement officers and avoid actions that obstruct the course of justice.

The accident adds to growing concerns over road safety in Zimbabwe, where fatal crashes continue to claim lives on major highways. Authorities have urged motorists to exercise caution and follow traffic regulations to help reduce accidents on the country’s roads.

ALLEGED PHONE THUG SPOTTED AT WORKER'S DAY EVENT

A Zanu Pf activist suspected of stealing Human Rights Lawyer Doug Coltart's phone during CAB3 public hearings at City Sports Center was reportedly seen at Dzivaresekwa Stadium during Workers' Day commemorations.

A citizen, speaking on anonymity, warned: "Mbavha yema foni iri mutent reZCTU muDzivaresekwa stadium ngwarirai tsotsi iro" ("The phone thief is in ZCTU tent at Dzivaresekwa stadium, beware of that thug").

The alleged thug, identified as Gapa, has reportedly been linked to previous incidents of harassment and theft. Citizens are outraged: "How did he get in?" "Arrest Gapa now!"
