We're so pleased to win the @FundInstituteAu Impact on a Shoestring award - thank you! But we couldn't do any of it without the amazing support of the #Canberra community who are always willing to help out 😊
If you are experiencing ongoing issues which effect your delivery of information to clients and the public please let us know so that we can feed into national advocacy efforts around this issue.
This is NOT acceptable during a pandemic or to apply to community organisations when people on low incomes and with disadvantage rely on this platform for information.
ACTCOSS are continuing to monitor the evolving situation with the Facebook platform. We are aware that some community organisations have been prevented from posting for a period (thread):
Such fun for the Leigh family to spend Christmas with the other volunteers at St Johns Care Reid, serving lunch to vulnerable Canberrans. People like Pam are the bedrock of our community.
A big thank you to all our #ChristmasLunch volunteers, including @ALeighMP, Gwen and their boys who came to help. We couldn't do it without so much support from the #Canberra community!
Thank you to everyone who joined us for #Christmas Lunch today! Guests and volunteers alike made it a beautiful day, showing some of the best of the #Canberra Community.
A huge thank you @Australian_Pork for your generous donation once again. It was well enjoyed by the many who joined us at our #Christmas Community Lunch today as well as some leftovers to support those doing it tough in the New Year. Merry Christmas!
We know the holidays can be quite isolating and stressful for some people. That’s why it is important that we give back & support great events like the @stjohnscare Christmas day lunch. The donation today of 9 #aussiehams will feed over 350 people this Xmas! #thegreatestgift
Congrats to all the winners and runners up of the @anglicare_aust National Awards for Innovation and Excellence! Especially pleased to celebrate Flo Young, winner of the Volunteer Achievement award and long-standing volunteer in our @AnglicareACT#Eden parish partnership services
Congratulations to Flo Young, winner of the 2019 @anglicare_aust Volunteer Achievement Award! Flo has volunteered at Sapphire Surprises, an op shop and emergency relief provider in #Eden NSW, for over 25 years. A huge thanks to Flo from us at @AnglicareACT!
Thanks @ACOSS for this great clear explanation of #Newstart. Many of our clients receive this payment and can't make ends meet (we're Emergency Relief, they wouldn't need us otherwise). There's not enough for food and shelter, let alone an unexpected expense or emergency.
Fact check! Do 99% of people on Newstart receive supplementary payments? Yes - they get the Energy Supplement, which is $4.40 per week for a single person. This payment plus Newstart equates to $282pw, or $40 per day.
Not OK, the threat of eviction and homelessness is far too real for many of our clients, and similarly the fear of final notices and debt collectors. Campaign by all means, but retraumatising people whose lives are hard enough already crosses the line.
Attention followers, we understand this propaganda is being distributed in some electorates. It closely resembles a debt collection notice and may frighten some #tenants. It is not from a landlord or realtor. It is election material opposing changes to property #tax concessions
Thank you @city_news for your support. We desperately need supplies to help Canberra families struggling as the weather gets colder. Please donate groceries if you can, or online at https://t.co/oqY3Utd2YP. Thank you! <3
The shelves at Canberra's largest emergency food charity, St John’s Care at Reid, are almost bare and management is reporting an urgent lack of supplies to support an increasing number of people in need, reports KATE MEIKLE. https://t.co/XRgocCP9it
"People are being forced into survival mode. They have to choose whether to put food on the table, seek work or pay their rent" - @JeremyHalcrow, Anglicare ACT CEO. Data released today in the #RentalSnapshot2019 shows that rentals are unaffordable for most low income earners.
Thank you Brooke for sharing your story. She has a steady public service job but a relationship breakdown forced her to move with her 3 children into a caravan park because she was not able to find an affordable rental. She says she still wouldn't have managed without Anglicare.
