1K carrying out their solvent investigation today. They planned and carried out an experiment to determine the best solvent for removing nail varnish 💅 @stninianscience
We discussed combustion of alcohols and demonstrated this by burning some ethanol on a heatproof mat, before the big finale 🔥 a great turnout and we are looking forward to seeing you again tomorrow! @stninianscience

Miss Hall’s S3 Chemists carrying out the combustion of alcohols practical today 🔥 tomorrow pupils will use the data collected to calculate the energy released by each alcohol @stninianscience
Miss Baxter’s S2 Chemists were using manganese dioxide to decompose hydrogen peroxide 🧪 they then used the test for oxygen to prove this! @stninianscience
Miss Dougall’s Lab Science class were making saturated solutions and then observed what happened when the saturated solutions cooled down 🤩 some fantastic crystals on display here! @stninianscience
S1 classes in the department have now started the new Chemistry unit within the @stninianscience course 🥽🧪Today Miss Hall’s S1 pupils demonstrated excellent practical skills and each of them achieved their Bunsen Burner license 🔥
