Todays BANG FRIDAY was an end of term special 💥 we had a methane bubbles production line on the go! What better way for the S1’s to finish up for the October week 🤩 it was a busy one! #thequeue @stninianscience

They also displayed photos of some of the work they have carried out in N5 Laboratory Science as well as the crystals they made recently! These pupils have shown themselves to be fantastic role models for our younger pupils in the department 🙌🏼 @stninianscience

1/5 We had some crowd at BANG FRIDAYS today 💥 best turnout yet! Thanks to the S1 pupils who attended. Miss Dougall led an excellent session in which we discussed the dangers of hydrogen gas, using the Hindenburg Disaster as a real life example @stninianshigh @stninianscience

1K carrying out their solvent investigation today. They planned and carried out an experiment to determine the best solvent for removing nail varnish 💅 @stninianscience

We discussed combustion of alcohols and demonstrated this by burning some ethanol on a heatproof mat, before the big finale 🔥 a great turnout and we are looking forward to seeing you again tomorrow! @stninianscience

Miss Hall’s S3 Chemists carrying out the combustion of alcohols practical today 🔥 tomorrow pupils will use the data collected to calculate the energy released by each alcohol @stninianscience

Miss Baxter’s S2 Chemists were using manganese dioxide to decompose hydrogen peroxide 🧪 they then used the test for oxygen to prove this! @stninianscience

Miss Dougall’s Lab Science class were making saturated solutions and then observed what happened when the saturated solutions cooled down 🤩 some fantastic crystals on display here! @stninianscience

S1 classes in the department have now started the new Chemistry unit within the @stninianscience course 🥽🧪Today Miss Hall’s S1 pupils demonstrated excellent practical skills and each of them achieved their Bunsen Burner license 🔥
