@jch2355 The meme has turned into showing a sequence of related things, generally in decreasing quality and where the poster is acting like they prefer the later choice because they have “refined tastes”.
@KirillOsenkov@ethomson@JSchindelin Perhaps it is getting confused about needing to rewrite. Do you have a consistent repro? Perhaps with a public repo or small example? Run with GIT_TRACE2_PERF=1
@KirillOsenkov@ethomson@JSchindelin Git writes the index to an index.lock file then renames it, which is why it looks like a deletion from the file system perspective.
“git status” will rewrite the index if it thinks something changed, so the next run can be faster.

Don't forget to submit your release to be featured!
Nobody will care more about your tech presentation than you. Practice. Go to tech checks. You’re responsible for every pixel and the audience will notice that you care.
Also, it's important to note that GitHub uses verified email addresses, not the mailmap, so I'm actually a few spots lower down. Use this to find out the real numbers:
git shortlog -ns --no-merges origin/master
Being able to code in such a way that your past failures don’t happen again is a mf-ing super power everyone should want. A superpower that grows and grows as you get older.
