The future USS Ted Stevens (DDG-128), the Navy's newest Flight III Arleigh Burke-class guided missile destroyer, arrived in Whittier, Alaska, on September 27 ahead of its October 3 commissioning.
Ted Stevens will be the third Flight III destroyer to enter the fleet. The Flight III configuration is centered on the AN/SPY-6(V)1 Air and Missile Defense Radar and Aegis Baseline 10 combat system, along with upgraded electrical power and cooling systems designed to support the ship's advanced sensors and weapons.
DDG-128 is the first U.S. Navy warship named for former Alaska Senator Ted Stevens. Stevens was a World War II Army Air Corps pilot flying C-46 transport missions over "The Hump" between India and China, earning two Distinguished Flying Crosses and two Air Medals.
He represented Alaska in the Senate from 1968 to 2009 and was a prominent advocate for national security, military modernization, and improved military pay and benefits.
The October 3 commissioning will be the first Navy ship commissioning held in Alaska since USS Anchorage was commissioned in Anchorage in 2013. After commissioning, Ted Stevens will be homeported at Naval Station Norfolk, Virginia.
Four servicemembers attached to the USS Dwight D. Eisenhower (CVN-69) were injured in a landing mishap onboard the nuclear-powered aircraft carrier off the coast of Virginia on Monday, according to a statement published tonight by the U.S. Navy.
In addition to two sailors assigned to the Eisenhower that were injured in the incident, two naval aviators with Carrier Air Wing Three (CVW-3) ejected from an unidentified two-seater aircraft - either a F/A-18F Super Hornet or EA-18G Growler - and were later recovered. One sailor was transported from the ship to a Norfolk-area hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.
The U.S. Navy said, in a full statement on the incident to USNI News: “At approximately 6:18 p.m. EDT on Sept. 28, a mishap occurred during aircraft recovery operations aboard the Nimitz-class aircraft carrier USS Dwight D. Eisenhower (CVN 69) off the coast of Virginia,” reads the statement. “Both aviators were safely returned to the ship and are being evaluated by medical personnel. Four shipboard personnel were also injured during the mishap and are receiving medical care. One sailor is being transported to a Norfolk-area hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.”
🚨🇺🇸 4 sailors were injured aboard the USS Dwight D. Eisenhower yesterday, in what the Navy calls a "mishap."
2 Navy pilots ejected as they were attempting to land on the aircraft carrier, which is off the coast of Virginia.
They were rescued by search and rescue personnel.
The 4 injured aboard are currently receiving medical care, including one who was transported to a hospital in Norfolk, VA for non-life threatening injuries.

🔴ATTEMPTED SMUGGLE THWARTED
The IDF identified a drone crossing from the east into Israel in an attempt to smuggle weapons.
IDF soldiers located the drone, which was carrying nine Kalashnikov rifles, magazines, and a handgun.
The weapons were transferred to the security forces for further handling.
Saudi airforce is starting to significantly pick up strikes on the Houthis in Yemen over 25 airstrikes were recorded today.
Some believe larger scale operations will follow.
🚨🇸🇦 BIG development for global oil markets...
Saudi has reportedly RESTARTED oil exports through its crucial East-West pipeline after repairs from drone strikes earlier this month.
The route allows Saudi crude to reach the Red Sea without passing through the Strait of Hormuz, a critical alternative during the Iran war.
With global buyers scrambling for barrels, getting this route back online could provide BADLY needed breathing room for oil supplies.
