The Saskatoon Public Schools Board of Education is holding its final meeting of the 2025-26 school year.
The meeting is beginning with a presentation on doubleball, a traditional Indigenous sport recently showcased at SPS’s 6th Annual Doubleball Tournament at wâhkôhtowin School. Six elementary schools participated.
More than a game, doubleball helps students build teamwork, physical skills, and good sportspersonship while learning about Indigenous culture and traditions. The tournament was initiated by SPS Traditional Knowledge Keeper Tim Eashappie Sr. to make traditional Indigenous games accessible across the division.
Ahead of next week's 150th Commemorative Treaty 6 Round Dance, our First Nation, Métis and Inuit Education Unit is providing cultural learning for staff and students about the significance, teachings and protocols of Round Dances.
Thank you to Marc Longjohn and Kathy Wahpepah for sharing their knowledge and teachings.
At our final leadership meeting for 2025-26, our senior leaders - including all school principals - gathered to say farewell to our superannuating (retiring) Director of Education. It was a truly heartfelt moment.
Can you believe: there are only ELEVEN more days to the finish line for our elementary schools and SIX days of regular classes remaining for our high schools.
This time of year is so bittersweet for students, staff and families.
