🌟 Business as usual is not reform.
This week at #WHA79, Member States will vote on a joint process for global health reform. If it excludes civil society from its governance, it risks reproducing the very gaps it intends to fix.

@CSOs4UHC@MSHHealthImpact "How can we talk about country leadership and country ownership if that doesn't include communities and civil society? How can there be sovereignty if that doesn't fully express the will, dignity & desire of the people?"
– @rosemarymburu, ED of @WACIHealth#WHA79
Opening remarks by @hickspeggy@ohchr at the @DigHealthRights Side Event, #WH79
#1: Digital transformation needs to be intentionally designed, developed and regulated in line with human rights law. It won't serve health as a default.

Lenacapavir could help end AIDS. But UK aid cuts and wider financing pressures are undermining the systems needed to deliver at scale. UK needs stronger global partnerships to ensure access. @DrDuneton@AnneAslett1@ejaf@Unitaid

@STOPAIDS@WHO@floriako@gnpplus@UKMissionGeneva@UnitedGMH GHA reform must be "driven by community engagement, especially among the most marginalised groups & by principles of comprehensive human rights, the right to development, transfer of technology & solidarity."
– Dr Richarlls Martins, CNPD Brazil on centring social participation
"We need to take advantage of this once-in-a-generation opportunity of opening up the established order to surface more radical, challenging ideas that could really catapult us towards greater equity & access for all."

🌍🩺 Today we mark #WorldHealthDay with a new op-ed: Reimagining UK Leadership in Global Health
by @MichaelPodmore & Molly Thompson (@STOPAIDS)
UK leadership in #globalhealth is about more than science, it requires sustained investment & partnerships ⬇️ https://t.co/5ohYaWFqUr
The UK has the research base and the institutional credibility. What's needed now is the political resolve to back that up with predictable investment and genuine partnership, especially with impacted communities in the Global South leading the way.

Today is #WorldHealthDay. Here is why the UK needs to match its scientific strengths with real commitment to global health partnerships, as written by STOPAIDS CEO Mike Podmore and Senior Advocacy Advisor Molly Thompson. https://t.co/nEt8ITYcKk
🧵
The global fight against HIV offers a powerful proof of concept. It's among the few SDG health targets still within reach by 2030. It was built on long-term funding, strong multilateral cooperation, and approaches rooted in community leadership and human rights.
Powerful piece by Yvette Raphael from @apha_sa in the @Independent on the risk of UK aid cuts to Africa leaving behind women and girls, who were key to the success of lenacapavir as the closest thing we have to an HIV vaccine.

They will share insights on:
- Tackle's award-winning methodology and how it engages young people through sport
- How adolescents in Africa are accessing HIV and sexual health services via football-based programmes
- Plans to scale this UK-developed approach
