i've considered stopping red dead multiple times because it feels like i'm watching a fucking slideshow and hurts my eyes and head. 30 fps in 2026 is borderline unplayable

Why 30 FPS probably isn’t as bad as many people think.

A lot of people act like 30 FPS automatically means a game will feel terrible, but that’s not always true. A great example is Red Dead Redemption 2 on PlayStation 5. Even though it’s still locked to 30 FPS, it’s one of the smoothest-feeling 30 FPS experiences available. Thanks to excellent frame pacing, well-implemented motion blur, and Rockstar’s animation quality, the game still feels remarkably fluid.

Some players tweak settings like disabling HDR or running the console at 2160p to improve the experience even further, but overall, RDR2 proves that a well-optimized 30 FPS game can still look and play beautifully.

That’s why I’m not worried about GTA 6 being capped at 30 FPS. Unlike RDR2 which is essentially a PS4 game running through backward compatibility GTA 6 is being built specifically for the PS5 from the ground up. Rockstar has had years to optimize it for the hardware, and if any studio can deliver a polished 30 FPS experience, it’s them.

Frame rate is only one part of the equation. Consistent frame pacing, high-quality animations, motion blur, and overall optimization often matter just as much. If Rockstar nails those aspects, I think GTA 6 will still feel fantastic to play.
