One year ago today, I chased a secondary target in eastern New Mexico and documented a tornado in Floyd. I did not see a single storm chaser the entire chase. This is a comprehensive thread looking at the forecast, observations, tornado evolution and reasoning behind the target.
Awesome interaction around tornadogenesis
The way I interpret it (and I could be wrong), as the leftmover approached from the south, this forced rapid development of a discrete new updraft and tornadogenesis
I would much rather miss a tornado because of my own bad judgment; picking the wrong target, being out of position, etc. But missing a tornado purely because of chaser convergence after doing everything right is by far the most aggravating and infuriating reality to deal with. Driving 25 mph down a dirt road just doesn’t cut it if you want to see tornadoes! Can’t wait for tomorrow to be worse!
Tornado today right up the coastal cliff, north of Tel Aviv.
Interesting to note, there were many waterspouts on this storm, but this one formed over land. There was no visible water spray or funnel before that. Coastal cliff might’ve enhanced local helicity! True tornado here
