I’m watching the new adaptation of Avatar: the Last Airbender on Netflix, and I’m seeing it through fangirl eyes. So far so good. On episode 3, but so glad I’m alive to see this made.
5. Prioritize good sleep, food and books. They haven’t led you wrong yet. A lot of life’s simple pleasures are solitary and that’s absolutely fine. The streets and hustle can wait. Nourish yourself first.
Some lessons I learned in 2023:
1. Enjoy & live the life you have, not some imaginary life you have in your head. Enjoy the house you’re in, the relationships you have, the job you do, the body you’re in. Most times you have the ingredients for a pretty good life already.
4. Wear the lipstick. Buy the shoes. Vunja kabati. Dress the body & face you have. You have never been and will never be as beautiful. Aging is real. Live in the moment and look good in it.

1. You have to actively work towards feeling joy & happiness.
2. You will not escape racism by having more money.
3. Finding & keeping genuine friends may be one of the hardest things you do.
4. Laundry does not end.
5. If you don’t know your values you’re probably not making the best decisions for yourself.
6. Everybody is winging it.
7. There will be a lot of grief & loss and you’re responsible for working through that.
8. You can love your family from a distance.
9. Comparing yourself to others can create setbacks.
10. Nothing will change if you don’t change anything.
11. People may stop inviting you places if you don’t show up for them.
12. Everybody wasn’t raised like you.
13. You’re never going to be perfect.
14. Being dishonest will change people’s perception of you.
15. Motivation is fleeting.
16. Your body changes A LOT.
17. Hard work won’t always mean more money.
18. Not getting enough sleep will catch up to you.
19. Your time is so valuable and you will never get it back. So cherish it.
