Problem is, I’d had it since I was 16, and told every doctor I saw in that decade about my symptoms.

This is super common in fundamentalist Christian spaces. Basically anything they can blame demons for, they will. It’s a way to avoid accountability (for those with power) or compound punishment (toward those without). These folks never left the old Satanic Panic days
