I keep seeing farmers saying “Government we need money from tax payers”, “Government we need more cheques in our mailbox”, “Oh Please Government we need better programs”.
You know what agriculture needs in Canada? For the government to get out of the way. A government that will champion our productivity and tell the great story that CDN agriculture has to tell. A government that facilitates free trade and fixes trade issues the minute they happen. A government that has proper regulation in place focused on health and safety. Policies that attract investment.
Here’s some controversial takes:
Government policies and regulations should solely look at health and safety. (Arguments could be made that environmental impacts fall into it)
Government shouldn’t be in plant breeding.
In many cases, government shouldn’t be the service provider. Governments are generally inefficient and often have priorities that don’t match that of the industry. Government’s role in a lot of things agriculture needs to be as a regulator and facilitator.
Generally speaking, experts in other counties are just as capable as the experts we have. This isn’t a take that’s meant to be disrespectful rather than saying we should do a better job at levering it. Time and money aren’t infinite.
Farmers need to spend more money on lobbying federal and provincial government so farmers get the outcomes we deserve.
There’s MUCH better places to allocate capacity (Money and TIME) than on BRMs.
We need a government that does less but does the things they do better.
We have a Sasky Senior Father vs. Son scrap in the Sask Prairie… 😮

@Harty1980 @JL_Braden @TheCrabAppleDog@CKOMNews Most non-parent volunteers get some sort payment, at least in our minor hockey hockey association, much more than $1000 for the year . Parent volunteers do not get any compensation though.
@Harty1980 @JL_Braden @TheCrabAppleDog@CKOMNews Yes, for doing 1 day a week noon hour supervision and pushing 200 hours of extracurricular volunteering, I got a whole 3 EDO's.
My brother coached Zach Hyman when he was around 10, 11, 12 years old for a few years.
It was a stacked team. Skinner, Balisy, McFarland, Smith-Pelley and Toffoli to name a few.
Hyman was not even close to being the best player. Not even close.
But, my brother said he was always the hardest worker. Every practice, every shift, every game. Always.
People thought he was only on the team because his dad was involved in hockey. He had to listen to that every year. But it never fazed him.
He epitomizes what hard work is. Look at him now.
The best 10, 11, or 12 year old is not always the best 25 or 30 year old. Remember that kids. Work hard.
Congrats Zach.
At a cold rink at 8 AM on Super Bowl Sunday & witnessing one of the biggest issues in hockey…unnecessarily shortening the bench…at a recreational 12U hockey game
Not AAA..
Not AA..
Not A..
Not B..
Not Rec Select..
Not Recreational Championship game..
Not Recreational Playoff Game..
A recreational regular season game….
The 5 “Travel Select” players make up 30% of the roster….and were given over 60% of the ice time…so you can win a game on a Sunday AM….
This is why kids quit hockey…
This is why kids don’t become life long fans…
This is why kids don’t want to play hockey instead of iPad..
We need to do better as coaches…these are kids..let them play…let them grow…let them love the game
Because at the end of the day there is only one “Big Game” today…and it’s in Vegas!
@ChrisPike177073 @Mtn40A@denisebatters Except farmers aren't price makers, we're price takers, we don't get to pass the cost on. We just pay more and make less.
As an athlete, you’re only as good as your attitude. It doesn’t matter how talented you are, if you have a terrible attitude, you won’t accomplish much in life.
