I’m feeling like I’m gonna be annoyed as hell that they didn’t trade Tong when his value was highest just like I was annoyed they didn’t deal Peterson after 2024 and Dom Smith after 2020. 🤬
@NYNJHarper Murph is the smartest baseball guy in any booth anywhere and 30 teams need a guy like this in the booth so the level of understanding of the game can increase.
Or use your entire roster, Butch. If you end up in the losers bracket and have to play 5 games you can either punish your arms or use the staff depth. Thats the advantage of not losing.
“I’m getting really disappointed… the regional format is - really concerning me if we’re talking about what’s best for student athletes.”
Auburn Coach Butch Thompson raises concern about the amount of starting pitchers that were coming back, throwing again, and totaling over 100 pitches during Regional weekend of the NCAA Baseball Tournament.
⚠️ A rare opinion of mine that I will include in a press conference clip that I post 👇
So many new eyeballs are finding College Baseball’s postseason fascinating because of the Tournament format and all the chaos that we’ve seen over the past two years. I have no doubt that the ratings have boomed. I don’t know why you would try to fix what is not broken, then again they changed the NCAA Basketball Tournament too.
HOWEVER, Butch has a point with the usage of pitchers in a 3-game series vs playing 5 games in a weekend. This is the biggest/best argument you can make against the current NCAAT format. I am not a fan of change, but I’m willing to provide a platform for passionate individuals with incredibly illustrative thoughts on a new NCAA Tournament format that logically makes sense given the current academic calendar.
Tom Hamilton on Jazz Chisholm:
“He predicted the Yankees will win the World Series. He did that on the Jimmy Fallon show. Pretty amazing he got on the Jimmy Fallon show batting .239.”
@MikeAV8s@sc_cooper7 Who he was talking about is irrelevant even though what he did to his kid on Sunday was pretty questionable. I disagree with his stance in general.
@sc_cooper7@MikeAV8s We were in the Columbia regional in 2010. Our ace went 41st overall. Our #2 beat Va Tech and pitched in the Braves org. Our #3 was Mike Clevinger. Our #4 was drafted by the Tigers. We were a mid-major. Good teams have the arms.
@sc_cooper7@MikeAV8s I believe Oklahoma started a kid the other day who hadn’t started the entire season and he threw great. I might be mistaken but I’m pretty sure that’s what I heard.
@sc_cooper7@MikeAV8s Right!? I hate Bs baseball stuff where having the best 1 or 2 arms decides the entire thing. It’s a team game. Depth matters. Hate when HS best of 3 championship series are set up where the best ace can win 2 games. Thats not baseball. It’s a “staff” for a reason.
@NHooper19 I don’t think Butch was necessarily talking about just his team. He was talking about everyone that ends up playing 4 or 5 games. I just disagree with him completely.
@dubswill@based_vet Caleb you’re just young and not that smart yet when it comes to any of this. You’ll get there if you want to. Do some more research because you’re obviously new to the game.
@oliviacwhat It doesn’t have to be but he does bring up the guy that he threw 37 pitches over 3 inn in game 1 and then 63 pitches over 4 inn in game 2 after siting for almost 2 hours. You would never see a pro guy asked to do that. That’s not good.
@Tia_Dubs Yeah I’ve got no idea what he’s saying. It’s the stuff I see and hear said to high school girls and down that I just hope they aren’t learning to take verbal abuse and do nothing about it. That they’re supposed to accept a man talking to them that way.
