First, jihad in Filastin is defensive jihad. Since the Muslims there are unable to repel the enemy, it has become fardh ayn on the entire ummah to fight.

It is obligatory on every Muslim to do whatever they can to fulfill this obligation. Boycotting is a pitifully small action, but it can contribute to the overall effort.

Second, the basic ruling of trade with the kuffar is reciprocity. If they put tariffs on our goods, we place tariffs at the same rate. Some evidences:

عَنْ أَبِي مِجْلَزٍ لَاحِقِ بْنِ حُمَيْدٍ، قَالَ: قَالُوا لِعُمَرَ: كَيْفَ نَأْخُذُ مِنْ أَهْلِ الْحَرْبِ إذَا قَدِمُوا عَلَيْنَا؟ قَالَ: كَيْفَ يَأْخُذُونَ مِنْكُمْ إذَا دَخَلْتُمْ إلَيْهِمْ؟ قَالُوا: الْعُشْرَ. قَالَ: فَكَذَلِكَ خُذُوا مِنْهُمْ.

ِAbu Majliz Lahiq bin Hameed narrated: “It was asked of Umar ‘How much should we take from people of war (ie. kuffar who do not pay jizya or reside in dar al Islam) when they enter upon us?’ He said ‘How much do they take from you when you enter upon them?’ He said ‘A tenth.’ He said ‘Then as they take from you, take from them.’ [Al Mughni, 9/350]

Imam Shafi’i, may Allah have mercy on him, said:

لو أن معتدياً مشركاً اعتدى علينا، كان لنا أن نعتدي عليه بمثل ما اعتدى علينا

“If a transgressing polytheist attacks us, it is upon us to attack him in the same manner that he attacked us.” [Al Umm, 2/174]

Imam al Shaybani, may Allah have mercy on him, said:

فإن كانوا لا يأخذون من تجارنا شيئاً لم نأخذ من تجارهم أيضاً شيئاً؛ لأن الأخذ بطريق المجازاة، فإن شرطوا في أمان الرسل ألا يأخذ عاشر المسلمين منهم شيئاً، فإن كانوا يعاملون رسلنا بمثل هذا ينبغي للمسلمين أن يشترطوا لهم هذا ويوفوا به؛ لأن هذا موافق لحكم الشرع فيجب الوفاء به …

“If they do not take anything from our merchants we will not take anything from their merchants either, because the taking is by way of recompense. So if they provide security to our envoys and do not take from them, then we should also provide security to their envoys and not take from them, because this is in accordance with the sharia ruling which must be fulfilled.” [Sharh al-Sir al-Kabir 5/189]

Al Sarkhani, may Allah have mercy on him, said:

فأما أهل الحرب فالأخذ منهم على طريق المجازاة، كما أشار إليه عمر بن الخطاب - رضي الله عنه -، ولسنا نعني بهذا أن أخذنا بمقابلة أخذهم، فأخذهم أموالنا ظلم، وأخذنا بحق، ولكن المراد أنا إذا عاملناهم بمثل ما يعاملوننا به، كان ذلك أقرب إلى مقصود الأمان واتصال التجارات

”As for the people of war, taking from them is by way of compensation, as indicated by Umar ibn al Khatab, may Allah be pleased with him. By this we do not mean that we take in the same way as them, because they took from us wrongly while we took from them rightfully. Rather, it means that we treat them in the same way that they treat us, and that is closer to achieving the aims of security and trade.” [Al Mabsoot, 2/199]

وأما الحربي فإنما أمر بأخذ العشر منهم؛ لأنهم يأخذون منا العشر، فأمر بأخذ العشر منهم؛ إذ الأمر بيننا وبين الكفار مبني على المجازاة، حتى إنهم إن كانوا يأخذون منا الخمس، أخذنا منهم الخمس، وإن كانوا يأخذون منا نصف العشر، أخذنا منهم نصف العشر، وإن كانوا لا يأخذون منا شيئاً فنحن لا نأخذ منهم شيئاً

“As for the people of war, it is ordered to take the ‘ushr (tenth of traded goods) from them because they take the ‘ushr from us. So as they take a tenth from us, we take a tenth from them, because relations between us and them are built on reciprocity. If they take a fifth from us, we take a fifth from them, and if they take a twentieth from us then we take a twentieth from them, and if they take from us something then we take from them the like of that.” [Al Mabsoot, 2/198]

The people of Gaza, not to mention mujahideen in many regions and the people living in the same areas with them are subject to brutal sanctions which prevent buying and selling and cause great misery to the Muslims.

If Muslims were to enforce such sanctions on any Christian nation, you can be sure there would be a swift response both in the form of sanctions and military action from the "international community."

So what is stopping us from showing solidarity with our blockaded, sanctioned brothers and responding in kind toward the kuffar and their Arab helpers who are maintaining the blockade and the sanctions?
