@cynicalobserves Identity politics has been a tool of the far left and far right for centuries unfortunately. Appropriating group identity creates a political force that is cohesive and exclusionary to outsiders. It destroys the individual by design. If you disagree, you're simply not a Scouser.
@cynicalobserves Worth comparing. Joanne Anderson's inaugural video is spoken to an unseen interviewer as opposed to direct to audience. It's autobiographical, long winded, uses stock footage and is IMO very unengaging.

π₯ WATCH: Newly elected Mayor of #Liverpool, Joanne Anderson, reflects on making history as the countryβs first black, female Mayor.
She tells us what makes her tick and outlines how she wants to make a difference to the lives of residents. @MayorLpool
@reatoration Your statements are all completely unsupported by the polling. The economy and health consistently come up as the top issues facing the country when people are asked. https://t.co/BB5wGay9pe
@reatoration You've made a few statements there that weren't in my original tweet. My point was that this culture war is a rope the Tories want the opposition to hang themselves on. I'm not buying it. And I doubt those who voted Tory in Hartlepool care. They care about jobs and their futures.
Just heard a local government officer describe young adults as one of the "hard to reach" groups, whilst later boasting a gleeful ignorance of Tik-Tok and scoffing at social media in general.
Are they hard to reach, or are you the problem?
But sure, more leaflets...
The proposal for reducing Liverpool City Council to a four yearly election cycle does nothing to remove the stale political culture that exists in many of our cities wards.
We need a dynamic, multi-party local democracy fighting for every vote. Caller's proposal here is very odd
Next Friday, Liverpool will have a new mayor
Their first priority will be the formal response the council must give to the devastating Max Caller inspection report and the major electoral shake-up it recommended

This isn't exactly a hot take or anything, but we really need to stop with phrases like 'chumocracy'.
It's called corruption.
This reductive narrative, coupled with most of the country being on first name terms with this guy is nauseating.
#PMQs
I've just came across a brilliant little local site putting out regular content about Liverpool.
Give them some support and head over to @merseynewslive
As Reach PLC homogenise their local news catalogue into clones of each other its refreshing to see @LJMU students stepping up
@LobsterPot6 Yep, that's first past the post voting for you. Some of them face tougher selection battles within their own party than with the electorate.
Corruption within one political party is no justiciation to suspend local democracy. The Tories have zero mandate in Liverpool to consider an intervention like this. Let's not forget however that the rot started with the governing Labour group.
β Vote on Thursday, 6th May.
@LobsterPot6 I don't know, you can stick a red rosette to anything in this city it seems and people would vote for it. It would be nice to see a lot more choice locally. Hopefully this will prompt people to look at the rest of the ballot paper when voting in May.
Devastating news for our city.
With local elections coming up, already a year overdue, Liverpool has the opportunity to take out its own rubbish thank you very much.
Are we ready for a Spring clean at the Cunard Building?
The gravy stains on the carpets will be hard to remove.
Really good to see that the cities universities were behind this technology, and even better it was put to use locally. This is how we become a smart city. Used responsibly, raw data can be utilised in innovative and life-enriching ways.

@rantingkat @xJenniferRosex Not sure what's going on here, but I'm flattered?
I think I've noticed a few Mossley Hill references from you in the past though @rantingkat, so @xJenniferRosex doesn't seem too far off target!
There's just been a big debate in my house about what day of the week it is.
We've concluded that we may need to start scratching a tally into the wall with a rusty shiv.
Happy Thursday (?) everyone!
