@littleold_ada@tennis_15love Omg I’ve been waiting for someone to think about the same lmaoooooo. Thats obviously her fans and that f commentator had done this at least twice lol (pretty sure he said the same at another wuhan match
@ad_swiatek I can see it as well. I also think her mentality also improved. She saved several break points in the first set when mertens really pushed her (I think earlier this year she’d lose a serve game at first set with that much pressure but she didn’t.)
Ya for sure there were a bunch of UEs and the shots that worked well last match didn’t work well for this one, and ya she was not at her best self on this match and there were some bad decisions being made, but I honestly think the theme of this match is: Mertens had a clear and well executed plan and she was on fire… Yea Iga could’ve played better (and she’s capable of doing so and it’s in her), but what I took the most from this game is how she was gradually coming out of her lowest ebb and saved a bunch of break points in her first set - this showed her mentality has been extremely improved… not to mention her improved serves, her coming to net more often and trying to diversify her game, daring to try things she was not comfortable trying… mind you those changes happened in the last 2 months and I don’t get it how ppl all of sudden losing faith (again) once she lost a match to a player who just played one of her best games at highest level… I’m not being dumbly optimistic at all. I thought witnessing women in their 30s play their best tennis would make ppl feel inspired because they’re telling us Iga will have such a long career and she still gets so much time to explore… her losing a 30yo player tells me there’s no need to rush her and mention “clock’s ticking” every time she lost a match…. she got so much time and just let her learn and adjust and explore for this season…. #iga
Dare I say the disappointment even from fan base of Iga after this game is kinda astonishing to me… (was working after the match and not checking X, and now I’m floored by the comments out there tbh…) #iga
Iga’s game is getting better and better and we’re seeing she’s becoming much more comfortable hitting shots in a ways she was hesitant trying (or still practicing when she was in North America) in matches only a few months ago. The corner shots, those absolute stunning line painters and the much more improved serves (still can be better. I know. We know. But she’s making progress in a pretty satisfyingly obvious way and I think ppl should be happy about it?)… absolute stunned by her performance and the result didn’t really matter that much to me tbh... When you are in a sport for this long and everything used to come so naturally and you push yourself to change things from scratch and somehow you get better overall despite the ebbs and flows is just ultimate inspiration. #iga #IgaŚwiątek #chinaopen
Reached a point in my life that I’m not afraid of watching my fav player lose. Watching sports is like flipping a coin, if you wanna experience the thrill when they win, you’d need to take the chance of being heartbroken when they lose. You’d be so happy only if you cared and dared to watch every point. Just witnesses Iga make her biggest comeback and I just couldn’t be happier. I couldn’t turn off my tv just because she was on the edge. I need to witness her, everything that she experienced, even if it was her loss. And this time, she won. I’m so fucking proud. #iga #IgaŚwiątek
Giving up on Iga just because she’s not “dominating” anymore sounds pretty ridiculous to me. If you just wanna follow someone who wins all the time, you will probably have a new fav tennis player once every several months. The nature of the sports is deciding to play a match with the risk of losing, and that’s what players (and their supporters) signed up for. there’s no players who can dominate all the time. even the greatest players had their ups and downs. when you decided to join the game and enjoy the euphoria of witnessing them win, you also automatically signed up for the devastation of watching them lose. anyone who truly loves Iga, who watched her struggle and work hard and fall down and rise again this season won’t be “out” just because of this one loss… shes been doing so much better. She’s putting things together. if you don’t even realize she’s still evolving and she needs games like this to readjust, then you were never truly “in” for her. #Iga #USOpen #tennis
As a Chinese who’s been watching Iga’s game and rooting for her for years consistently (and my bias is her in this game), I do wanna document my thoughts here about the game today. All thoughts and discussions are welcome as long as they’re polite. I’ll block all rude accounts.
I do think ppl always forget about how stressful those games still can be, especially important games like grand slams, even if they’re professionals who have been on tours forever. It never gets easier when you catch yourself all of sudden under that horrible situation and there’re thousands of pairs of eyes watching you. It’s so easy to judge ppl and say horrible things without trying it yourself. I’m not saying you need to play tennis to be able to make comments on players, but when I look at comments online, the shitty ones, I just know it for sure that someone who lives a real life and has faced pressure before won’t say anything like that. It just takes a little of decency and sympathy to realize it’s such malicious behavior to say bad things to a player who went through that loss in front of the whole world. If she had a choice, you think she’d choose to lose like that? I can’t even imagine how humiliating she felt when she was trying so hard but eventually failing, then having to walk out of the court like that. It’s very simple: nobody’s perfect. Go live your real life and stop projecting your own insecurity and sense of failure on a tennis player. They’re not responsible for your life and your disappointments. They’re probably already the one who has cursed themselves much more and much worse 10000 times.
I get shocked by how malicious people can be when players lose their game. They’re not taking your money. They dont owe you. Do you curse ppl you know in real life like this when they make mistakes? Happy people don’t present themselves online like this. It’s pathetic
