Atmosfer is the third and last flight of the @CNES balloon campaign. With 12 experiments on board, the balloon will fly during more than 11 hours in a small circle of 100 km around the @SSC_Rockets Esrange base.
@stratoballoon Only VATA is developed by IPSL.
BIS is developed by ISAE/SupAero, a aeronautics engineer school in Toulouse, France.
And X-STORM is developed by LPC2E, Orleans, France.
Thanks to you for keeping us updated of all balloon activities!
CALASET gondola has been launched at 01:28 am Timmins local time with a balloon of 150,000 m3. Flight altitude will be 32.6 km before to begin a slow descent until 13 km. End of the flight tomorrow around 2:00 pm. @CNES@asc_csa
@stratoballoon No, not yet. But hopefully soon :)
BIS is detecting infrasound generated by earthquakes.
X-STORM measures terrestrial gamma ray flashes emitted by thunderstorms.
And VATA is a sonic anemometer.
New preprint on Essoar: "Balloon-borne observations of acoustic-gravity waves from the 2022 Hunga Tonga eruption in the stratosphere" where we analyze volcanic infrasound recorded at 20 km altitude, thousands of kms away from the volcano https://t.co/h8BUtag63R

And this is the launch of the second #Strateole2 balloon in this beautiful Seychelles night. Both balloons will fly near 20 km of altitude for months (hopefully), surfing stratospheric waves around the Earth.

Yesterday night, we flew the 7th #Strateole2 balloon from Seychelles. @INSU_CNRS instruments onboard will measure greenhouse gases all across the tropics.
The same day, Flight #2 had sadly to be terminated because of the loss of one com link in the gondola.
@CNES@IPSL_outreach
The #Strateole2 campaign continues with the smooth launch (zero wind!) of its 6th long-duration balloon. This one carries the same instruments than the 1st (unfortunate) flight.
We hope the best for flight #6. So far so good...! @INSU_CNRS @IPSL_outreach@CNES
The 5th #Strateole2 balloon is in the air tonight with @LASPatCU instruments: an aerosol counter and an aerosol/water vapor/temperature profiler. Lots of upcoming data to better understand water vapor transport through the tropopause. @IPSL_outreach @INSU_CNRS @Strateole2USA
