Once again, it's that time of the year when I grow so sad that my suicide attempt failed, so I contemplate doing Inktober so I have some kind of commitment to not try to off myself for a month, but I'm worried it will turn out bad, so I don't think I should do Inktober this year.
We should stop to see kids and adults as something like "us vs them". Some kids do have concerns and can utter valid opinions from time to time
Invalidating those just because they are kids only accentuates the feeling of not understanding them
your dysfunctional parents need to be scared of you to respect you. you have to show your parents that you are insane & they created a person crazier than them. that is the dysfunctional parent psychology.
i think a good relationship is founded on curiosity. curiosity for not just someone's inner world, but their mundane world, as well. let me ask you about your preferred mug.
humans have been collecting shells, feathers, stones, flowers, and little objects for as long as we've been human. i think some ancient part of us just wants proof that we were here and noticed something beautiful
The unfortunate part about student #suicides is that we are more interested in fixing blame than fixing the problem.
Any sane country would fund research to better understand the causes of student suicides & then test interventions to prevent such suicides.
The way people talk about CBT on this app clearly shows they know nothing about it. CBT is an umbrella term for different various effective psychotherapies. Saying it "only works for people with dog brains" is in ableist, for it patronises those who have benefited from them.
talking therapy ie. counselling has helped me enormously, CBT however is total bullshit that only works for people with dog brains, it's basically just writing out "the sky is green" over and over until you believe the sky is green
@Wafyu69 Just realised I should have been more clear and phrased it as "the same mechanism as CBT exposure techniques" like PE and TF-CBT. CPT, for instance, is not exposure based but is still cognitive restructuring. EMDR and its controversies are a whole different can of worms, honestly
@Wafyu69 Research over the past decade shows that EMDR works due to the exact same mechanism as CBT (exposure), and marketing it as distinct by adding bilateral stimulation (which hasn't been proven to have any effect) is why it's deemed purple hat therapy.
I agree with the rest! (1/n)
Suicides are not just due to individual vulnerability. Structural issues play a big role. For most students in residential educational institutions eg IITs, the institution is their environment. So the institution & how it is organised & works, has an important role. 2/n
@Wafyu69 deceptive descriptions? It never occurred to me that they could talking about "coaching" until you mentioned. That's hilarious, lol. And yup, it's going to be hard! People seem to think therapy is a magic pill that resolves everything by taking 1 or 2 doses. It's not.
@Wafyu69 Like you said, it has a strong evidence base and high success rate for many conditions, but when people describe completely different from what it fundamentally is, I'm concerned and repulsed cause why are they deterring others from considering evidence-based therapies through-
