Exactly that! Nothing should be transactional. I want a comment from an author but I don’t expect one. It’s a nice little surprise to wake up to see in my inbox when it happens. I definitely understand that an author is working hard at all times on their amazing works and would never presume to think I was entitled to anything.

If it’s a one shot and it has an insane amount of comments I get it. I’m one in a thousand people screaming about how awesome this fic is.

But it gets really discouraging when you reply to a chaptered fic on every chapter and the writer never once replies.

I also feel like it is a nice two way street yeah? People expect me as the reader to leave a comment, so why wouldn’t I want a reply from the author back?

PS: no one is obligated to leave comments or answer them (life happens) I just like the concept of reciprocal interactions.

I just love the writer giving me feedback back on my feedback. I don’t expect anything. Do I want replies? Absolutely. It makes me giddy when an author sees what I wrote and has something to respond about. That’s what I meant by two way street. But expecting or demanding is not something I would ever condone.
