🚨 A statement from one of the biggest leagues in the country YEL East Midlands on the use of the word ACADEMY in their member clubs or teams name. Statement as follows⤵️

PROPOSED RULE CHANGE

If agreed by the Clubs at the AGM in June, this rule will come into effect immediately.

Use of the term Academy in club or team name or on social media related to any YEL member club/team.

Any club or team found to be using the term ‘academy’ in their name or associated social media will not be accepted into the league or, if already a member club, will have their membership immediately revoked if they are found to be using the term during the season.

The ONLY ACADEMIES in the area are the professional Clubs, Forest, Derby, Leicester, Lincoln, Notts, Mansfield, etc

ALL OTHER CLUBS ARE GRASSROOTS and anyone suggesting otherwise is giving you false information !!!

The YEL is a GRASSROOTS LEAGUE as are ALL other Leagues, such as Derby, Sheffield and JPL ..there are only 2 levels...Grassroots and the pro academy as above.

Time for this misleading nonsense to be stopped for the good of all young players and our member clubs

Message from a Young Ref

Dear Managers and Parents,

I'm a young referee now in my 4th season. Every weekend I’m told by managers there is a significant shortage for referees nationwide meaning games are being delayed or rescheduled. I speak to refs and they say, who would want to go into a job where you're insulted, abused and in rare cases assaulted? Unfortunately every referee makes mistakes and we apologise. However, you wouldn't hurl abuse at your players or child if they made a bad pass. Everytime we step onto that pitch we learn just like coaches and players. However, shouting wont change the referees' decision it will just make them think twice about stepping on a pitch again to referee. Leagues across the country are crying for referees. So just think, you are the role model of so many players on the pitch. They will always look up to you, let’s teach them respect which won't just stay on the pitch but they will also take off the pitch.

Just remember- Referees need to learn too!
