Built Environment Information Experts. Technology firm based in Newcastle-Upon-Tyne, creating data to build better places....

@GraemeKworld Not on red, that would take a specific survey, some traffic speed data is produced but likely not the very specific location at which vehicles move over the stop lines, will see what’s possible though.

We’ve completed commissioning of what we think are the first real time junction turning counts in the North East.
24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days per year a set of sensors around the Corner House Junction are enumerating vehicle turning movements for @NewcastleCC

For tonight only we’ve joined the
@cyclehoop #discobike collective -York

For a smaller compact junction we could implement this with just two sensors. The days of relying on occasional traffic surveys to see how a junction is being used may be numbered.....

[𝗦𝘁𝗿𝗲𝗲𝘁𝘀 𝗦𝘆𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗺𝘀 @Streets_Systems]

In parallel to this we've implemented the same back end to an existing installation around the Coast Road / Sandyford Road junction where a set of 4 existing sensors installed to monitor Active Travel movements has been able to feed a similar set of junction counts.

The dry world of monitoring comes to life

Today Streets Systems are at the North East Active Travel Conference in #Sunderland , Despite being a small local firm we're the biggest supplier of monitoring equipment for AT schemes in the North East. #NEActive

Some of our original edge sensors installed in Newcastle back in 2020 have been running non stop for over 4 years. Also entering our 4th year supplying London Borough Hackney monitoring some of the highest active flow locations in the UK.
2025 looks exciting too....

Another batch of AI traffic sensors hit the Toon for @urbanobserv , some pretty high footfall locations either side of city centre

[𝗦𝘁𝗿𝗲𝗲𝘁𝘀 𝗦𝘆𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗺𝘀 @Streets_Systems]

Here are Active Travel Innovations in Manchester where we'll be joining panel discussions talking about data and bus stop design

[𝗦𝘁𝗿𝗲𝗲𝘁𝘀 𝗦𝘆𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗺𝘀 @Streets_Systems]

This morning we're in #Sunderland hearing about #deliveringthefuturecity @ExpoSunderland

[𝗦𝘁𝗿𝗲𝗲𝘁𝘀 𝗦𝘆𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗺𝘀 @Streets_Systems]

We're sponsoring a session at @ExpoSunderland Future City next week, come hear the lovely @harvey_emms chair a chat about Infrastructure & Planning
https://t.co/DbmJoPHdzq
Looking forward to hearing about Sunderland's transformation on both days.

At #MicromobilityUK @uniofwarwick today with lots going on 🦓Xing related

[𝗦𝘁𝗿𝗲𝗲𝘁𝘀 𝗦𝘆𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗺𝘀 @Streets_Systems]

@samsterby Thanks for participating (maybe ), nearly all the bicycle movements we used for testing were members of the public passing through.

[𝗦𝘁𝗿𝗲𝗲𝘁𝘀 𝗦𝘆𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗺𝘀 @Streets_Systems]

@josephkazUK Not exactly 😉. With any technology / approach there's "can you do it?"; then "where should you do it?" (Which is up for debate). We're also involved with looking at simple side road zebras, it's not one or the other.

[𝗦𝘁𝗿𝗲𝗲𝘁𝘀 𝗦𝘆𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗺𝘀 @Streets_Systems]

First UK on highway demo of a Smart Zebra on Manchester Oxford Road today with TfGM & MCC. Thanks to @activetraveleng TfL, RNIB & all the others who came along to give it a go.

[𝗦𝘁𝗿𝗲𝗲𝘁𝘀 𝗦𝘆𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗺𝘀 @Streets_Systems]

@emble64 Almost the opposite 😉, it indicates when there's a big enough gap in flow to step onto the zebra & assert priority safely.

[𝗦𝘁𝗿𝗲𝗲𝘁𝘀 𝗦𝘆𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗺𝘀 @Streets_Systems]

@JamesDyson94 We're using camera detection to look for gaps in traffic flow & let visually impaired people when is a good moment to step onto a zebra. Not applicable everywhere but seems to be demand for a broader range of solutions.
