It's clear what the cause of air pollution on Stephenson Road is. A barrier alongside a pavement isn't going to solve the problem. Air pollution has been greatly reduced in London through strong leadership addressing issues sensibly. We need the same to happen in Newcastle.
@space4gosforth@NewcastleCC Any word if this will bring forward the long anticipated extension to the Heaton Road cycle path and redesign of Corner House junctions?
This street leads directly from Heaton Road where a scheme to make things safer has been half build, despite being designed and consulted on in a process leading back to 2016. Making streets safer requires decisions to be made and action taken now with no more decade long delays.
This street passes a school with over 2000 students only prioritises vehicles. People are hemmed in to narrow pavements which are blocked by bus shelters, side roads have fast, sweeping entrances, crossing points have tiny islands, and the cycle lane is narrow and painted.
Almost everything could be better here. This should be a street that prioritises people over vehicles. Huge parts of the street are hatched off to make things easier for drivers. There’s nothing that makes things easier for pedestrians and the thousands of people at the school.
The main cycle route between North Tyneside and Newcastle will definitely be covered in ice for the next week, rendering it unusable.
The road will be fine if drivers slow down a bit.
⚠️WARNING
📌A1058 Coast Road / Norham Road #NorthTyneSide.

In conjunction with @NorthEastPTUG we recently wrote the the city council to urge it to work towards making New Bridge Street and Blackett Street match the vision that has been sold to residents. https://t.co/bbGVp7TmzY

OPERATIONAL UPDATE:
The Pedestrian and Cyclist Tunnels will be closed from 10pm on Thursday 16 October until 6am on Friday 17 October.
Please note that no replacement bus service will be in operation during this time.
What does cause chaos is the 5% annual rise in road traffic and annual increase in the number of cars registered in the city.
Adding some extra cones to make a single lane stretch of road slightly longer isn't going to address that.
Last Thurs, 9th Oct, 8-9am it took 4 mins more for some people to drive from Cowgate to the Tyne Bridge than on Thurs 10th Oct last year.
In 4-6pm times were lower this year. During the day they were very similar.
The black line is times before bridge work started.
On the run up to local elections next year be sure to ask your councillors what they are doing to help make your neighbourhoods healthier, your active travel journeys safer, and your public transport journeys quicker.
