The big question for the budget: will it embed more car-dependency by building more roads, or will it prioritise cheap sustainable alternatives like walking and cycling?
We we want from the Budget: Move away from expensive road expansion where the case is weak, and work towards creating a transport system that provides real alternatives to driving, maintains existing infrastructure, and meets our legal climate obligations https://t.co/9ZaIsRHzdI

A 10-day closure of the Tyne Bridge will be in place from 11pm on Fri 23 Oct until 5am on Mon 2 Nov.

New paper by the World’s most prominent climate scientists shows rapid acceleration of human-caused warming, with a warming rate now that tracks to near 2.4°C by 2050, far faster than was expected, if it continues.
From paper: “We are witnessing the rapid destabilization of the Earth’s climate system. This is no longer a warning for the future; it is a diagnosis of the present. Earth’s life-support systems are being pushed beyond stable limits, with changes unfolding faster than our ability to respond. Human activities are driving profound shifts in the atmosphere, oceans, and biosphere.”
