I think I’ve underestimated, or maybe haven’t talked enough about how much Manchester United need a new goalkeeper this window.

Forget Onana’s howlers and weak box command, his distribution has never been convincing. Too often he goes long when he should go short, or vice versa, and even the quality of his passes has dropped massively compared to his Inter days. Will that change? I’m not sure.

Bayindir isn’t the answer either and his preseason only reinforced how average his distribution is.

Why does this matter? As @Jon_Mackenzie explains in the quoted video, with Sesko in, we’ll want to go long more often when teams apply consistent pressure.

Quality long balls into space or directly to Sesko, for him to chest down, flick, or head to a teammate will be vital for exploiting the central overloads we aim to create.

Question is, should we go for a shot stopper? (Donnarumma) or aim to get a more of a “ball-playing” GK?
