@endofanerajc @TheLastNeocon Every situation and family is different. I don't think there is a blanket answer that is right for every situation. I just tend to think that the people that are with the child and help them with decisions and possible troubles for 18 years and beyond can help

If the parents are jerks then the next step might be CPS. If the parents are supportive people then that may help the child regardless if they are ready

@TheLastNeocon @endofanerajc How can they be sure the kid isn't just afraid to tell their parents? Not because of a beating or being kicked out of the home but just because it's a big decision to tell anyone. The counselor does not go home with the child. The parents are raising him or her.
