If you’re a homeowner against Amendment 3, you are allowed to not take the homestead exemption and voluntarily send your tax payment to your local government.

No sense in stopping your neighbor from the getting/enjoying the relief. Vote Yes on 3!

No, Holly has it wrong. Local governments are not our communities, WE are. Amendment 3 will not “evaporate $46 billion over 5 years from local communities”. That $46 billion will still be in the communities, it will just be in our pockets instead of being taken by the tax man to spread around to appease special interests.

Counties and cities will not be forced to beg Tallahassee for anything. They will still be collecting property taxes on commercial and retail and property. They will still be collecting property tax on amusement and tourist attraction properties. They will still be collecting property tax on hotels and motels and apartment complexes. They will still be collecting property tax on Airbnbs, bed-n-breakfasts, “winter-homes” owned by Snowbirds and investor-owned rental housing. This is more than enough revenue to pay for fire and police and even libraries.

Why don't you have the Feds buy all the loans. Put the interest at 1%, and require 5% of a persons income minimum towards the loan. But first cap how much a person can borrow.

If local Florida politicians say they'll have to cut police and fire if you vote to cut your own property taxes. That means they're prioritizing funding all the "extra" spending first. And using whatever money is left over to fund your police and fire departments. That's INSANE!

St. Pete approved a $12 million subsidy for 24 “affordable” townhomes…$500,000 per home. The project’s estimated construction cost: $19.1 million, or nearly $800,000 per unit. The homes are expected to sell for roughly half that.

That’s government math.

You don’t solve affordable housing by subsidizing extraordinarily expensive housing. You solve it with policy.

Fix zoning. Allow density. Smaller lots, Cut parking mandates, fees and permitting delays. Make housing cheaper to build.

But fixing broken local policies is hard work.

Writing a giant taxpayer check instead is easy.

And stupid.
