Have ordered a strict ban on the sale and use of “single-use plastics”, along with a complete crackdown on littering, across Ladakh, a crucial move to protect the region's fragile ecology and pristine landscapes.
The new framework provides for hefty penalty for littering & plastic-related violations. For the first time, field level officers, including BDOs, Tehsildars, Municipal Officers, Foresters and Guards, too, have been authorized to detect violations and issue challans, for stricter enforcement.
Random checks will be conducted at the Leh Airport and border/entry points of Ladakh, for single-use plastic items.
Ladakh's pristine environment is its greatest strength and the foundation of our tourism economy. As we strive to develop Ladakh into a world-class tourist destination, development must go hand in hand with environmental responsibility.
WE EAT 5 GRAMS PLASTIC PER WEEK:
One more from the archives, sharing in public interest.
Each one of us is consuming 5 grams of plastic (equivalent to a credit card) every week. Science is yet to fully establish health linkages due to plastic consumption. This was at the Dehradun Nagar Nigam, a few years ago.
Be aware and be cautious. The message is still relevant, even today!

@iamankitpande Although I agree with you regarding report but ask any NRI regarding medical care and reporting it took 3-4 months for appointment of ultrasound and another month or so for reporting
did you know the penalty for driving without a valid puc certificate can go up to ₹10,000?
my puc had expired, but i had to travel for a friend's wedding. i thought i'd find a puc centre on the way and get it renewed. bad idea.
just after crossing the toll booth, traffic police stopped me. first licence, then puc. i did the usual drama of checking every pocket and document folder, but he smiled and said, "sir, i already checked online. it's expired."
i told him it had expired just a day ago. he said, "still have to pay the fine."
then came the interesting part.
"should i put the fine online?" he asked.
i assumed it would be ₹500-1000 and said okay. he started entering details on his phone, then looked up and asked again, "should i put the fine online or do you want to pay here?"
that's when i finally understood the question.
a ₹200 note quietly changed hands. my licence came back. i drove away.
for the rest of the journey i kept wondering whether i had done the right thing. was saving a few hundred rupees worth it? what if another cop stopped me?
when i got home, i checked the actual penalty online.
₹10,000.
for forgetting to renew a puc.
and the worst part,
the next morning i went to renew it. the centre didn't even test my car properly. they just issued the certificate and sent me off.
a system where the fine is ₹10,000 but the compliance check itself is often a formality doesn't feel like pollution control. it feels like a big scam.
Gutkha has been banned in Maharashtra since 2012
But for years, the gutkha mafia continued to operate freely.
Then FDA Commissioner Tukaram Mundhe took charge.
In just 3 weeks
200+ FIRs
300+ arrests
₹3 crore worth of gutkha seized
MCOCA invoked against supply chains
This is the same officer who has faced 25 transfers in 21 years of service.
Some officers work sitting in AC offices,
Others step out of the AC, work on the ground, and challenge powerful systems.
Tukaram Mundhe chose the second path.
There are some officers who work outside the office AC.
Do honest officers like him deserve greater support instead of repeated transfers ?

Sabeer, such views do exist, and they do exist only where there are old civilisations. These stories come from the very ancient times when there were no written languages. The verbal storytelling is called Saakhi ਸਾਖੀ. The true meaning of ਸੁਣਾਖੀ means ਸੁਣਾ-ਆਖੀ; it is now called “Saakhi”, the modern-day TED Talk. There used to be particular families that carried on storytelling traditions for ages. Once the script was developed, it was written down. You will find such written Granths/Books in India and in other parts of the world where old civilisations existed. These were not always myths. Read Shahnaama, a Persian epic. Bhagwan Valmiki ji also brought these saakhis down to writing, and that is how the Ramayan exists in written form. I believe the Ramayana is not a myth. Storytelling is a serious and talented profession. Not everyone can go to a TED Talk. There is a difference between walkers and Talkers, and some talkers are great storytellers, as some walkers are marathon runners.
Time to immediately announce her the brand ambassador for swatch bharat abhiyan and Requesting Sukhu ji and the whole cabinet to please take action and get this area cleaned up ASAP. Can’t believe she had to see Himachal like this 💔
