This speech from Zohran Mamdani on America’s 250th changed my politics.

I’ve never seen a more pompous individual whose life has been void of any sacrifice or hard work confidently lecture as if people like him hold the key to human prosperity.

Here’s a guy who had never held a job until he found the angle to satisfy his thirst for attention through politics at age 30, sit behind George Washington’s desk and give us a lecture on what is supposed to be a day of celebration.

Instead of celebrating what this country built, prosperity and human rights that spread across the globe from basically nothing, he turns the moment into a lecture about how America is this flawed project desperately in need of topdown change from useless academics and politicians who’ve never built anything of value for anybody.

As I get older, I have started wrestling with my own ridiculous and undeserved comforts, and the massive sacrifices of generations that made them possible. We should be expressing sheer gratitude for the families who crossed this country in covered wagons chasing a future, for the young men who died in muddy fields and frozen trenches defending it. At some point we let the children forget about this, and it's going to be a tragedy.

Our ancestors didn’t sacrifice so we could sit around demanding more redistribution while building nothing of value ourselves and living in opulence kings couldn't have dreamed of. They built something exceptional through risk, and relentless work.

Watching someone like Mamdani use the 250th as an opportunity to lecture us about what’s wrong with America, it just flips a switch for me. I’m done with the ingratitude.

We need to defend America from those that leech off it's greatness and attempt to redefine it.

De manier waarop Chat Control er –als een dief in de nacht– is doorgeduwd, is werkelijk schandalig en een democratie totaal onwaardig.

Ter herinnering: het Europees Parlement had dit dossier eerder al twee keer eerder tegengehouden.

Deze week werd vervolgens een procedurele kunstgreep bovengehaald: een zogenaamde spoedprocedure waarbij een gewone meerderheid van de aanwezige parlementsleden niet volstond (?) om die tegen te houden, maar een absolute meerderheid van ALLE Europarlementsleden nodig was.
Maar velen waren al op verlof vertrokken natuurlijk…

En dus stemde een meerderheid van de aanwezige Europarlementsleden opnieuw tégen.

—> Maar omdat de uitzonderlijk hoge drempel niet werd gehaald, werd de spoedprocedure toch goedgekeurd en kon Chat Control alsnog versneld worden doorgeduwd.

Als een aanwezige meerderheid tegen stemt, maar die meerderheid door een procedurele truc niet volstaat om het voorstel tegen te houden, dan is het moeilijk nog ernstig te nemen wanneer Europa zichzelf een toonbeeld van democratie noemt.

Luis Mayandía, the former head of the National Police's Central Unit for Illegal Immigration Networks and Document Fraud (UCRIF), has revealed that Spain's Socialist government ultimately intends to regularize up to 6 million illegal immigrants over time, far above the 500,000 initially discussed publicly.

Speaking on the TV program Código 10, Mayandía challenged the government's official figures, saying the plan would not be limited to a one-off legalization but would instead unfold through successive measures over the coming years.

I haven't done this in a while, but I saw this tweet and couldn't let it go. Before you read this, check out the quoted tweet below, equally as aghast as I am. You'll need to get the gist before my response will make any sense.

Say someone had given you this advice on New Years 2000, with the stock market screaming at all time highs and seemingly no end in sight. Tech-led; massive bull run; history being made. Sound familiar?

You took your inflation adjusted $3.5m ($1.76m in January 2000) and put it into MIGFX, the oldest running growth stock mutual fund in existence. Simple, easy; the man on the radio with the rolled up sleeves told you to do it.

Every January 1st, you took out the equivalent of $200,000 2026 dollars (for example, $104k in January 2001) and, otherwise, let it ride. Just like the radio man told you to.

You went completely broke within 10 years.

Let's say, however, you started on New Years *2001* ($1.83m inflation adjusted) because some jackass on the radio was sure this mutual fund, already down 27% from all time highs, couldn't possibly go any lower.

"You're getting in at a DISCOUNT," I'm sure he'd tell you.

You were completely broke within 12 years.

Ok, ok, ok. Let's say you did it on New Years *2002* ($1.85m inflation adjusted) instead. Now this mutual fund was already down 45% (!!!) from all time highs. Certainly the bear market is over and it's all smooth sailing from here, right?

Sure, things were better, but you still ran out of money after 18 years.

Is that how long you expected to live in retirement? I hope so, because now you get to go live with your kids just because you listened to some guy on the fucking radio give you insanely bad advice.

Three years; one at the top, one in the middle, one near the bottom. All three had you die penniless.

And make no mistake, people will show up to point out that I cherry picked those 3 years, but that's the point. You have no fucking goddamn idea which year you're starting this in. Could be 2011. Could be 2001.

And neither does Dave.

En majoritet av ledamöterna i salen röstade precis för att stoppa Chat Control. Men eftersom EU-topparna tvingade fram sin "hastprocedur" krävdes det plötsligt en absolut majoritet på 361 röster från hela parlamentet för att avvisa förslaget. Tack vare att de la omröstningen mitt under semstern, när bänkarna står tomma, var det i praktiken helt omöjligt att nå den spärren.

EU-ledningen lyckades alltså med konststycket att runda en demokratisk majoritet.

What the West Still Doesn’t Get It:

Communism’s True Core: The Systemic Lie

Most people in the West think they understand communism. They picture bread lines, gulags, failed five-year plans, and the collapsed Soviet Union. They treat it as a discredited economic theory – an experiment that proved that abolishing private property doesn’t work. Case closed, history moved on.

This misunderstanding may be the most dangerous intellectual failure of our time.

Communism was never primarily an economic system. Economics was the surface. Beneath it lay something far more insidious: a total, systemic, institutionalized commitment to lying. Not occasional dishonesty. Not spin or propaganda in the ordinary sense. Something deeper – a civilizational war against truth itself, waged through every institution, every classroom, every newspaper, every conversation, until reality itself became negotiable and the lie became the air people breathed.

The Words We’re Missing

The Polish language, forged by decades of living under this system, produced words for this phenomenon that English simply cannot match:

Zakłamanie [zah-kwah-MAH-nyeh] – a state of total, pervasive, socially embedded falsehood, a condition in which an entire society is saturated with lies so thoroughly that truth becomes almost inaccessible.
Obłuda [ob-woo-dah] – a deep, performative hypocrisy, the gap between what is proclaimed and what is actually practiced, the mask worn so long it begins to feel like a face.

These are not words for individual liars. They describe a system – a mode of social organization built on organized mendacity, where the lie is not the exception but the foundation. English has no single word for either concept, and that linguistic gap is not a coincidence. It reflects a gap in experience. Cultures that did not live under communism lack the vocabulary because they lack the wound.

And because they lack the vocabulary, they struggle to recognize the thing when it reappears in new clothing.

The Continuity: Communism, Leftism, Wokeism

What we call wokeism today, or the broader radical left, is not a new phenomenon. It is the same operating system running on updated hardware. The specifics have changed – instead of the proletariat, we have marginalized identity groups; instead of bourgeois class enemies, we have racists and transphobes; instead of socialist realism, we have DEI statements. But the deep structure is the same.

That deep structure is this: truth is not discovered, it is assigned. Reality is not something to be understood honestly but something to be narrated strategically. Language is not a tool for communication but a weapon of power. And anyone who resists the approved narrative is not simply wrong – they are dangerous, and must be silenced, shamed, or destroyed.

This is zakłamanie in its modern form. This is obłuda wearing a human rights badge.

The same movement that insists men can become women will insist, with equal fervor, that questioning this is an act of violence. The same institutions that claim to champion free inquiry systematically suppress dissent. The same people who invoke tolerance as their highest value are among the most intolerant forces in public life. The contradiction is not accidental – it is structural. It is the system working as designed.

Why the West Still Doesn’t Get It

People who grew up in freedom tend to assume, at some level, that bad actors know they are lying. That somewhere behind the ideological performance, there is a cynical operator who privately acknowledges reality. This assumption is wrong, and it is why Westerners consistently underestimate what they are dealing with.

The totalitarian lie, at its mature stage, is not cynical. It is believed. Or rather, it creates a condition in which the distinction between belief and performance collapses entirely. People learn to say things they do not believe so fluently, and for so long, that they lose access to what they actually think.
