When Paul wrote 2 Timothy, he was imprisoned and awaiting execution; the Temple in Jerusalem still stood and the sacrifices continued; the churches he founded were troubled by false teaching and many rejected him as their leader; and nearly all of his colleagues were abandoning him.
If you'd taken a poll about the future prospects of people remembering Paul or the potential success of the Christian Church and message, my guess is that the results would note only bleak expectation. But when the Apostle Paul passed, he died not with polls on his mind but with the promises of God on his lips. It looked hopeless but things were just getting started!
My friends, if things are bad and look like they might get worse, remember that we stand on God's promises rather than living by human opinions. And God - as Jeremiah noted in troubled times - watches over his word to accomplish it.
We live beyond our personal chronologies for a purpose larger than our personal comfort.
May 23, 2024 the biggest day of my life. I can’t even comprehend everything that has taken place this past year. The devil has truly dragged me through the pits of hell. I’ve been tested in every aspect of my life, but have only grown from it. At this point you can take anything in my life from me, but one thing that won’t waiver is my belief in Christ. I’m 9 surgeries deep at this point, and each one has only made me want to be back in a Jersey more and more.
If it’s Gods will, He will. Believe that.
Conflict is inevitable, but “redemptive conflict” is a choice, requiring humility in us, and God's grace and Spirit. Paul warned believers about “biting and devouring one another” (Gal.5:15)—what Jack Miller called “Christian cannibalism.” May we do hard things in loving ways.
If this elbow in ijury is the end for Daniel Bard at age 38, he is a person who pitched that I will forever respect. To go without an MLB pitch from 4/27/2013 to 7/25/2020, never surrender, throw 197 games through '23 w/10K/9 IP with courageous dignity...well, he's a Bard.
On this date in 1963, Jack Kennedy died in Dallas and Jack Lewis died in Oxford. One tragic death eclipsed the other in terms of world attention, but it was Clive Staples Lewis, known to his friends as "Jack," who taught us that Aslan may not be safe, but he is good.
Playing D1 baseball has always been a dream of mine. With consideration & prayer I’ve decided to continue my academic and athletic career @ the Univ. of Southern Miss. All thanks to God, my family, & my Charlotte Christian coaches. @SouthernMissBSB@_JeremyBooth@ftrstarsseries
Honored to appear on the @strugglingwell podcast discussing boundaries w/the opposite sex. A few principles:
1. Ask what will bring confidence to your spouse
2. Identify the image of God in the opposite sex
3. Guard your heart
4. Guard the heart of others
