Excellent edition of Warbirds Workshop last night. Caught the emotion of the looong journey undertaken to build Scotland's only full-sized flying WW1 aircraft.
Watch it on More 4 catch up.
Tonight, watch the incredible East Lothian pensioner volunteers in acion building Scotland's only full-sized, flying WW1 aircraft...Sophie the Sopwith 1-1/2 Strutter. Amazing story!
Gerard Lohan from the Aviation Preservation Society of Scotland (APSS) delivering a terrific presentation on Sunday 6 April: "Sophie - the story of East Lothian's new Sopwith 1½ Strutter".
Gerard not only recounted the story of Sophie, but placed her in the wider context of WW1.
If you want to know more about "Sophie", Gerard Lohan from the Aviation Preservation Society of Scotland (APSS) will be speaking at the Western Front Association in Edinburgh on Sunday afternoon, 6th April 2025. See other posts for further details.
This is what it's all about. Sophie is not just the only full-sized flying WW1 fighter in Scotland, she's also a magnet and a gateway for young folk interested in STEM subjects. Two placements from George Watson's learning from Sophie's pilot, Tim. The APSS are good at this!
@Pedrobigears Of course. We're working with all the schools in the area but Watson's (the only private school we're working with) were the first to offer us placements. We've worked with over 1000 pupils in their schools and taken on 9 NEETS school leavers as trainees. More to come!
