The man who wants to rescue Sheffield Wednesday, American businessman David Storch, says he has been “informed that a 15-point penalty is set to be imposed at the start of next season” in League One. The outgoing owner Dejphon Chansiri should hang his head in shame at the damage he has inflicted on Sheffield Wednesday. He can’t have a conscience. Otherwise he’d accept a compromise on bid price. 

The EFL should have been tougher with Chansiri quicker. The FA should remember it is supposed to be custodians of the game and protect clubs. The importance of an Independent Football Regulator, much delayed by vested interests, is highlighted again by events at Wednesday. 

At the moment, the people being punished at Wednesday are fans, players, staff and the man who wants to save them. Shameful situation engulfing a historic club which could have been avoided with stronger leadership by the authorities. And Chansiri locating some principles. #SWFC

When it is argued, in various football disputes, that points deductions must be imposed even for inadvertent breaches, in order to vindicate compliant clubs, one has to wonder whether that reflects a genuine commitment to consistent strict enforcement in all cases, or is simply a position adopted for the purposes of a particular case.

Consistency is very important in sport - the lack of it can undermine public confidence in the integrity of the whole game.

I do not comment on any one individual case, I just hope that those involved in the decision making processes can see the merit in treating each case according to its particular circumstances rather than being inflexible in some, but very flexible in others.

That, I am sure, would help restore the confidence in sports arbitration we all wish for.

The current situation surrounding Championship side Sheffield Wednesday is difficult to see:

🔵 Wages delayed for players and staff for the third consecutive month
⚪️ North Stand is deemed unsafe for use
🔵 Under transfer embargo, unable to buy players for this summer’s transfer window, and both in 2026
⚪️ Only have 15 senior players contracted to the club
🔵 Manager Danny Röhl has left the club
⚪️ Multiple players leaving the club for free after delayed payment, such as Josh Windass and Michael Smith
🔵 EFL reportedly considering withholding money, such as TV revenue, to pay off some of the club's debts
⚪️ Friendly against Burnley cancelled due to players refusing to play

A sad situation for a historic club 🦉

Morecambe fans are fighting to keep their club alive.

Jason Whittingham has less than 2 days to sell the club. After that, Morecambe FC will cease to exist.

There has been little media coverage of this, despite the outrageous actions by Whittingham.

Morecambe fans need your support and solidarity.
