@ko12599983@UltRankSSB@SuperSmashCon It'll still only be one event though, it won't directly affect their score at other tournaments, it just gets tossed into the average.
@ko12599983@UltRankSSB@SuperSmashCon Depends on the event it occurred at (hurts a lot more at majors, especially supermajors than at regionals). There's two factors at play, the loss itself and the opportunity cost of not getting to advance further in the bracket, that are going to push the score for that event down
@ko12599983@UltRankSSB@SuperSmashCon The hard requirement is 1 open bracket major and 3 other open brackets, Carmelo has 4 open bracket majors so he meets attendance.

If UltRank highlighted the 51st player (in mid year)/101st player (in full years) a couple days ahead of the main release, would y'all find that cool or would it feel mean-spirited?
@Carme_Blade I think Japan not having prize pools compared to overseas plays a big role. Japan plays for pride, playing on a rigged ruleset = no pride in winning. Overseas plays to get ahead of the competition and get more of the prize pool, a ruleset rigged against another character helps.
I think this is largely unnecessary—tournaments that alienate a significant portion of the playerbase naturally will get fewer entrants and have less weight in the rankings. The bar for when we need to step and say "this can't be allowed to count" is and should be very high.
Smash as a whole may need to have a conversation about whether or not a tournament with significantly different rules of play can even be tiered, as well as if the supernova TOs banning things (especially in older titles) is being done in good faith
