Take a look at the price of oil over that past 10 years and US oil production over the past 20 years. The US is now the leading oil producer in the world at 13.3 million barrels per day and that is likely to increase to 14 million barrels per day over the next 12-18 months. Note 20 years ago it was not even half that.

Take a look at the price of West Texas Intermediate, the domestic benchmark, it closed today at $66.26 compared to the 10-year average of $64.65. Brent crude, the global benchmark, sits at $69.69 vs the decade long average of $69.33.

Increasing supply has pushed down domestic regular gasoline prices down 6.2% from the January 2024 peak and is poised to drop at least another 10% this year based on the price of wholesale gasoline costs.

The idea that the US is not energy self sufficient is simply not true. Fracking, oil production and natural gas are going to play a role in the domestic energy mix as we continue along the long journey to energy diversification and renewable resources taking their rightful and much needed place in that mix.
