@EJSDonald@rainworthgord@NihilistRS@campbellclaret Perhaps the US relationship overrode Iraq. It was the guarantor of our defence and nuclear capability. Wilson had rightly kept us out of Vietnam at a cost but Blair was caught on the 'good' of deposing Saddam and having pushed the US out a unilateral position had no alternative.
@clausym Good to see it will hopefully be flung into space by the European Space Agency. Nice the UK is part of the action. Hopefully this government won't Brexit that to.
@NicDeLaMitch That's not what the science ever claimed. It reduces transmission not stop it. Clearly if you can keep the R value below 1 for long enough you can eliminate it. But our government chose not to attempt that back in July.
@AlexFergus0n@PippaCrerar London is not a one off. Nottingham is also a spike centre of infection. We can hope the spikes are not replicated elsewhere and hospitalisation ratios are not lower but very much lower to avoid hospitals maxing out.
Is over reaction better than under reaction?
@JasonMcWatts@AlexFergus0n@PippaCrerar Another factor is that the most vulnerable - mostly the over 60s - infection rate lags the young (from whom they will mostly catch it) so there is a double lag for ICU & deaths. Hopefully they are the most boosted. Whether this will compensate is moot.
@AlexFergus0n@PippaCrerar Alex - that's a log chart. It shows the rate of increase - not the increase - is decreasing as you would expect as we approach saturation. It's not stabilisation of cases by a long chalk.
@AlexFergus0n@PippaCrerar I'm inclined to think your plateau can only be achieved by rotating the infection chart by 90 degrees for London. Nationwide a big leap over 100,000 today and Omicron hasn't even really got going in many areas.
Congratulations Rose winning Strictly last night. Congratulations to the BBC for reminding us how signing includes. Will our PM now follow the rest of the UK and most of the world and now include it in national press conferences too?
@CyclingLawLDN I cycle through Partridge Green beautiful leafy lanes to/from Shoreham. To think I shared them with this excuse for an humanoid is truly frightening. But how to stop the unstoppable?
@lewicyclists@Layo_GP@Rahario On the other hand around here Lewisham have successfully blocked cyclists from using our pavements with legal and unenforced illegal car parking. Clever eh?
@clausym@davelowry My LaserPro 200 is cat5 connected but still goes for an occasional walk in the dark. I always run empty on multiple cartridges. It moans, but so far, still prints if you hit the OK button sufficient times. Careful to not knowingly upgrade the firmware.
@clausym Whereas I do regard riding when the temperature is below 37 (in old English) as more than foolhardy. And I have the spills to prove it!
There is still the E Croydon option...
