@bruning_ron Your point was that Cohen has the means and willingness to disregard cost in team building. A sustainable team implies limits to resources. There was a better option on the market than the internal options and the Mets didn’t take it. Thus they didn’t optimise for 2024

Yamamoto could be signed to compete next year but since he didn’t that money didn’t go on the roster to compete this year. 2024 was not a target, in part because there is 50m plus expended on players that are not helping the team!

Boras is going to be after a big contract but the bat speed looks to be going so you might end up getting him for a shorter deal but lots of teams would take him on those terms too so if the Mets don’t commit early it may end up being moot

@RobMcKay86 @MetsInTheUK Yeah don’t know if Vientos is going to cut it at first but he is below average 3rd and Alonso is not the best defender either so I think there is scope to at least try it. If you can pick up a DH that can cover 1st you can hedge against that and let Vientos fill in at DH

That’s going to go bad pretty quickly and if you can get a decent 3B with better defence that Vientos you can swap Vientos to first and maybe not lose much (so long as you add another power bat from somewhere *cough* Soto…)

@MetsInTheUK It really depends on what it takes to get Alonso back. Manaea is definitely worth a contract and you could make a case for Stanek. Winker is fine but you can pick up guys like that every year and I’d want a better every day DH option

@entschwindet It’s definitely not as coherent as the Dundasvale scheme that got horribly ‘upgraded’ a few years back but that just shows that this stuff won’t be treated with any sort of respect if it doesn’t have some protection

@MurphyNiallGLA No I think it’s fair and a sensible retention of the ABC *should* push you towards more sensible massing. It’s dispiriting though that I can barely recall a single development proposal in the city that wasn’t at least a storey or two larger than it ought to be
