PSA:
GameChanger stats…
Pitch counts, strike outs, walks and runs scored are the only basic stats that can’t be manipulated. Unless of course the person running GC forgets to change pitchers or has the lineup wrong.
If the person running it struggles to differentiate between hits and errors, passed balls and wild pitches, stolen bases and indifference, almost everything you see will be inaccurate. Batting average, ERA, hits, hits allowed, earned runs, RBI’s, they will all be skewed and sometimes in a big way.
GC has become a source of tension in our youth game. If this is happening on your team, the easiest solution is to stop using it. If parents and coaches want stats, let them keep their own book.
@CorsonCole 100% agree.....club sports = my parents pay the money and I get to play. School sports = I have to work for my spot, and I don't want to do that....more kids are taking the first situation over the second
Luke Falk shared a Mike Leach story that stopped me cold:
Two kids. One rich. One poor.
Every training camp, Coach Leach told his team about these 2 kids.
The rich kid has two choices.
Get soft. Get entitled. Expect everything handed to him because he was handed more.
Or take the resources, the coaching, the opportunities, and compound them into something greater.
The poor kid has two choices too.
Say nobody gave him anything. Blame the world. Make his circumstances the reason he never became what he could have been.
Or outwork everyone in the room.
Luke said the locker room had both. Kids from wealth. Kids from nothing. Kids with every advantage. Kids who scraped for every inch.
Same choice for all of them.
Ownership or victimhood.
Fuel or excuse.
The rich kid can waste the head start or build on it.
The poor kid can drown in the deficit or weaponize it.
Greatness doesn't come from where you start.
It comes from which kid you choose to feed.

Youth baseball…
We are playing in the “World Series” this weekend!! Games will have a time limit. Folks will call the umpires “officials” and runs scored “points.” Coaches will use tactics to “run out the clock” and there will be 20-30+ combined stolen bases a game because this is “real baseball.” 😂😂😂
I’ve seen a number of accounts, some school accounts likely run by young people and other young journalists, who report losing scores first.
The proper way to list a score is the winning score first every single time. Your team did not lose 68-75. They lost 75-68.
Thank you.
@Coach_Kern A memo went out to high school teams in iowa this past season because some kids had one mouth piece attached to their helmet but just hanging there and had another mouth piece that was in their mouth. memo said if the mouth piece is attached to the helmet, it needs to be worn
It’s 2025 and I actually have parents trying to defend pulling their child out of school for a vacation. I get a death. I get granny is turning 100 and lives out of state. But to get a cheaper vacation- nope. Can’t ever support that.
Travel ball is to blame. It's one of the biggest scams in existence and is absolutely destroying the game. Charging exorbitant rates to parents of kids who have zero chance of ever playing above HS level, but convincing the parents they can get them exposure that will
Played against a team today whose coaches coached their guys the entire time! Constant and incessant noise.
Coaches…if you’re going to yell at them every second of the game, what are you actually doing at practice?
I use term “coach” extremely lightly!
@CoachSwit Not about the number of pitches. Stop chasing velo and let it come naturally. Stop throwing weighted balls and focus on mechanics and location. Everything in moderation
High School baseball isn’t a business or pay-to-play situation. There is true internal team competition for playing time because only the best 9 play. At the lower levels of travel ball, if a kid doesn’t play “enough” he just goes to another team. He doesn’t feel discomfort required to grow, compete and win a starting job.
