Have you seen our #IESurvey2022 yet? We want to know what it costs you to be a student in #Aotearoa, whether you are an #undergrad or #postgrad, from a #uni or an ITP, we need you to tell us your story at https://t.co/rs5ZjEuVEy 🙌🙌🙌
This is an utterly abhorrent move! Students are suffering as a result of the cost of living crisis. Recorded lectures support us to learn and earn as we need. If you want us to be present full time at uni, pay us a full time allowance to be there.
The ‘ratepayers’ roll is inherently undemocratic, violating the principal of one person one vote. We’ve launched a petition to change that at https://t.co/eMYhDzQKa9
Vinaka @NewshubNZ for profiling this research and @_chloeswarbrick for commenting. Student debt is so much more than student loans. We shouldnt be normalising debt to eat.
Too many NZers are sacrificing their human rights to pay the rent, says Chief Commissioner Paul Hunt.
“We’re very concerned some students, low-income or single-wage families are making trade-offs between the right to adequate food & right to a decent home” https://t.co/mgBL8JihhC
We’re not really growing up if the main argument for retaining student poverty is that some of us also had it hard. Not to mention the basic maths: it’s now more expensive to survive, there’s far more debt taken on and far less support available.

@CharleyK If you’re looking at Student Allowance alone, when Hon. Grant Robertson was @studentsnz Co-President (1996), 37% of students received the Allowance. Nowadays it’s 27% (and the real value of that Allowance has degraded). https://t.co/9gfabHiXyd
🧵 This Local Body Election will be for renters. For far too long local body elections have been focused on homeowners, landlords and business owners. This year they'll be focused on the people who keep our communities running, renters 1/n
Some outstanding statistics from the People’s Inquiry Into Student Well-being from the New Zealand Union of Students Associations (@studentsnz) and the Green Party (@nzgreenparty). Yet another BIG SIGN that the government needs to switch to free fares ‼️
Article from @renewsnz
Launched the People's Inquiry into Student Wellbeing on Monday at parliament on behalf of @studentsnz
With @_chloeswarbrick. Students are in trouble!
I dont know how to tell you that you shouldnt be okay with people living in financial hardship when we can do something about it
Our Inquiry has proved what we already knew. Students live in poverty and hardship is getting worse.
Students are going without lunch and struggling to keep a roof over their heads because of Government inaction. We need bold action, not broken promises.
We said the inquiry into Student Wellbeing would give us irrefutable evidence of the systemic barriers and challenges facing 400k students in NZ.
It has.
Student poverty has become normalised and entrenched. This wasn’t an accident, but a political decision. It can be fixed.
@nzlabour A one-off, tokenistic $350 band aid doesn’t fix the broken student allowance system and doesn’t correct the systemic causes of student poverty...Students are at breaking point and leaving us out in the cold isn’t a solution.
#BREAKING: @UCNZ students who started studying before this year will now have their stipends increased and back-paid equitably to the increased levels for students that started this year.
Stoked to have worked with students to help make this happen… You're next @AucklandUni!
